You should be telling the BETA group what the ALPHA group is playtesting. Seriously what's the big secret? You aren't making money off this so it's not like OMG OUR IDEAS AND INTELLECUTAL PROPERTY ARE GOING TO BE STOLEN. Do I think the Team should discuss things they are planning but haven't dropped a moment of code on? fapp no that is a waste of time, but putting together a change log in advance for the BETA group should not be considered too much work.
The reason we do not publicise the current Alpha feature set under testing is that not all features end up shipping with releases. Also, there are certain assets in the Alpha that we are under NDA ourselves to keep internal until completion. It has been my experience that talking about planned or in-development features sets unrealistic expectations from some of the community or sparks a torrent of questions/criticisms on features that aren't even final yet. The simple way to avoid any of the accompanying frustration from this situation? Simply keep alpha development internal.
Also, the ideas that we come up with are OUR ideas and the decision on whether to release them or keep them to ourselves until release is ours alone to make.
Lastly on the torso inertia/lag business, why was it so difficult to get an explanation out? Thressan did an excellent job with his replies, (really +karma too him for that) if he wasn't available why not a quick "hey guys we'll address this for you in a moment" instead the board was left to troll itself to death.
You will forgive us if some of the developers on the team decide to take a day or two off after slaving to get a release out the door. In my opinion we do well enough keeping our community informed and given a choice I would much rather have our developers spend their time developing new features than explaining or justifying them.
Again I respect all that you do for this game, and I truly want it to succeed.
Thank you for that sentiment. It does sometimes seem that not all of the community have the same faith in our ability to deliver a quality game.
