Kudos to devs
« on: February 04, 2011, 09:45:06 PM »
I just want to give the devs a pat on the back for these more frequent and smaller updates. I have long felt that the community was being left in the dark too long about the things to come and improvements being made. The space between updates killed alot of the momentum this community had gained. With smaller more frequent tweaks to the game the players can SEE the work being done and enjoy the occasional surprise much more often. I predict more active players with every update even if that update is no more than fixing one issue on one map. This way you can try new things that may break/improve the balance more often in real world servers. Beta testers actually feel like they are testing something instead of trying to master something that may or may not exist 4 months from now. Thanks for allowing me to be excited again about mwll.

You are welcome, and thank you for taking the time to compliment us and our work.

Going forward we will be adhering to a shorter interval between "major" releases but those releases will be reduced in scope both out of temporal necessity and developer endurance.  Our tentative goal is to try and have a release every 2.5 months, with the usual caveat that we might slide one way or the other depending.

I should hope that we do not ever need to repeat the larger number of hotfixes featured with the 0.4.x line.

Yeah a praise thread!

Once again, most professional mod team around, community interaction issues aside (it's a problem for any development so don't take it personally) you guys are quite simply the best.

The new patch feed structure is fantastic and certainly will breathe a lot of life into the mod's PR as a constant stream of news is likely to keep some buzz going.

Thanks again!

I think if you guys continue to work on this project, many, many more people will stand up and start to notice that you guys are doing, for free, what other game companies fail to accomplish while being paid.

You are creating an extremely fun game that looks and plays better than any other free mod I've ever seen!

You deserve many beers.

This game is AWESOME!! I can't tell you how much I love the fact that I can say that "Hey, we've got a bug here, just want to let you know so you can take a look" and then not soon after, I get a patch addressing that very issue. Amazing!! And, it's free! It's like the dream I've been waiting for out of a game.

The only thing I wish for was a Campaign, but this is good enough! Thanks much for such an awesome experience. Is there any way I can send a donation as an appreciation for my thanks?  :o That would be cool!

I do like the frequent updates. I feel like people actually are listening. Even if its not a patch, saying "We're working on a new type of physics on the torso, it will be out in the next patch. Getting closer everyday" is something to look forward to. Keep it up!

Yesterday I was in a game where I took the time to use spectator mode to view the mechs on the battlefield. Aesthetically these mechs are absolutely amazing. I was browsing around the wiki and the models for the BattleArmor are actually pretty stunning when you look at them up close.

I like how the mechs look pretty iconic, while still remaining true to their loadouts (no MW3 Madcats firing lasers from their missile racks).

In terms of gameplay vs graphics. You guys allowed us to have our cake and eat it too.  :)

Honestly guys you have done an unbelievable job on this mod especially considering the fact that you guys aren't even getting paid to do this. When I first heard bout this I never ever dreamed it would be anywhere near this complete visually AND game play wise especially since the project you chose to pursue had such a large scope and amount of changes from the base game. All of the other mods I've tried have either been great graphically and sucked game play wise, or have sucked graphically and rocked game play wise. You guys have somehow managed to give us both. I agree completely that many game companies could learn a lot from you guys. Also the frequent updates are a huge help. Maybe even adding a news page to the auto updater/launcher with just small daily updates about what you guys are working on would be really cool to have. I have no idea how much work that would entail but I think that it would really help people feel like progress is still being made even in between patches. Keep up the great work!

Edit:

Hey I was just wondering about this. How did all of you guys get involved in this? I know you are from all around the world. Did you guys meet up somewhere or was it through and online forum or game or something? Just curios :)

Another kudos I'd like toss out to the devs for....

"- Points from kills are now awarded based on damage dealt"

I'm not left fuming when my kills get jacked.  I've made saKhan twice now without a single kill.  It's nice to be rewarded on the fact that I'm doing the majority of the damage towards a kill.  Instead of having all the bonus stolen at the last second by someone else.

I love this change too and not just because it's extremely cool to be top of the scoreboard with as close to 0/0 KDR as possible, but also the little windfalls of cash you get after you've engaged a target, crippled him only to watch him retreat...and then to get that windfall many seconds later as a friendly finishes him off and your RTB...it's always good to know that they didn't make it back 8)

That, plus about 1000 other little changes all require many Kowtows from us mere mortal mech-heads  ;D

I understand you won't always be able to patch and update this frequently.
I agree with the praise, what you guys are doing is above and beyond what people expect out of a "Mod", to the point that such effort requires a new word.
I have no doubt the community will keep increasing as you approach completion!

Kudos and Godspeed!

I wholeheartedly agree with this thread and everything said in it. I would even go as far as to say it is very inadequate as to the praise you all deserve. It has brought me out of my single player, story driven bias just to marvel at how sweet this mod game looks and plays.

A big hats off to you all!
