The game supports 30 players so why not run with it?

That's not a good argument. Just because the game supports it, doesn't mean you have to or even should use it. You can run 32 player servers in Team Fortress 2 as well, but that doesn't mean you should. Those are awful servers, usually ones that even treat users that pay for the server differently. Can't speak for Battlefield 2 in particular, but in any recent game that I played, a maximum possible player number never meant that it's automatically more "fun". Just because it's possible never means that it's always better that you should do it.

A server should be concerned with what might be most fun and best for the player, not hackle after maximum player count like a rabid dog ;P. And a "player" is not just a theoretical entity with the best possible hardware available.

Why ask Maus to 'argue' in favor of his opinion? That's not how opinions work.

I agree that more players makes the game more fun.

Hm? I do not know what you mean, his point was that because the game supports up to 30 players at once, you should use it. At least that was what his post sounded like.

Just saying it's all a matter of opinion and not everyone is in favor of smaller games :)

Huntress runs fine @ current (it ran fine higher, too - for me - except technical issues I have that are peculiar to me apparently).

My original post from long ago was actually directed at several US servers that ran like ass at high counts (and still do) and me with < 30 - 50 ping to them.

XI runs too high imo - or they need to reboot more.  Always glitchy hit detection, etc.

Huntress is pretty well admin'ed, so not sure what you all are grousing about.

I'm running a 3.5Ghz Quadcore CPU, I really doubt that is an issue. I played on Huntress with a 2.2Ghz and had no issues but this was back in 0.2.0 before they kicked up the number of players.

Again its the only server in the regular playlist that I have that has the sound issues. Even at the beginning of a match before the fireworks start. On MechWars by comparison I've never had a sound issue even with a full 24 player load with lots of firefight going on. Believe me, I don't have any clue why a sound issue would pop up on just one server. It could be a setting on the server bugging out something in MWLL itself. I've heard of and coded (accidentally) stranger bugs myself. But thats admittedly a shot in the dark suggestion.

I will point out a post that Defender made some time back:

I highly suggest playing with 24 players or less as that's the scale we officially endorse at this point. Any more people and you're playing at your own risk since many server hosts don't actually realize they can't host 32 player servers but do it anyway.
