"laggy" SRMs?
« on: February 13, 2011, 11:17:52 AM »
I am just wondering: why do some SRMs look like they have a "high latency"? I think it happens mostly with SSRMs. When you fire them, their position is only updated with about... 2 FPS or so. MRMs, ATMs, LRMs and I think most regular SRMs move smoothly.

They are server side. If you fire them the server takes over after a short time and directs them to their target. But since they are lock-on they at least don't miss like we had in regular Crysis and Auto-Cannons. The server keeps their appropriate values and decides if they hit or missed based on the location on the server side.

But why does it only happen with SSRMs and not guided ATMs and LRMs too for example?

Ah :D. Why are just the SSRMs server side?

(I am not questioning design decisions or anything like that, I am just interested in background information.)

So is the 'blowing up' in your face and shaking your screen bug going to be fixed?

As far as I know that is not a bug but rather a bonus  trade of the the SRM, although the shake got nerfed in the last version, meaning 040.  So I wouldn't expect it to be abolished completely.

But yeah, I'd also be interested to know why only SRM are tracked serverbased.

So that people playing with a joystick in a Owens B or Vulture B could not own mouse users,.... so mouse users could own.  So mouse could have lag.   So your computer will feel crappy even though its running 60fps.

... so the SRMs hanging in mid air and blowing up in YOUR face is not a bug?, maybe you misread what I meant.

Your own SRMS bug out and explode in your face, they don't do any damage but they screenshake you.

I think he meant your OWN SSRMS blowing up in your OWN face, causing your OWN screen to shake. Happens to me all teh time and I got used to it but wished it was back to 0.3.2 days when SSRMs did not do that.

I think the grass in marshes is made of a material that is stronger than mech armour, it also causes my ppcs to hit them giving me splash dmg. Come to think of it I want my mechs to be made of grass from marshes, that way i will be unstoppable.

I don't understand, what difference would it make for SSRMs if you play with a Joystick or a Mouse?

Since you didn't need precision for SSRM, joystick (analog) was a bit better than using a keyboard (digital) to turn and outmaneuver your opponent.  (Mouse users use keyboard).

With laser weapons, aiming is more important than moving - mouse wins.  With SSRMs nerfed, joystick users got nerfed as well.
