Getting MWLL to work with the Steam Community overlay
« on: February 14, 2011, 05:35:14 AM »
I remember being able to do this up till version 0.4. To use the steam overlay, all you did was add the launcher to your steam games list and launch it, and when MWLL is launched, the steam overlay would work on it. This is no longer the case. Now, after launching the launcher, and launching MWLL, the overlay closes with the launcher.

I hope this makes sense to anyone using steam, and if so is there some sort of workaround to fix it?

Err, I'd like to report the same thing. Having the Steam overlay working with a Steam game should be possible, and would be a big help if you want to look up information on the fly (though Crysis is surprisingly tolerable of alt-tabbing).
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

What's the advantage of that?    Why not just use the dedicated launcher...?

The advantage is that you can remain online with and chat to your Steam friends from inside the game I guess.

I only discovered MWLL for v0.4 so I don't know how the Steam overlay worked before that, but you definitely can still use it. The easiest way (having played the mod and configured your options through the launcher at least once) is to just adjust the command line parameters of the Crysis Wars game entry in steam, to add (IIRC) "-mod mwll". You can then create a desktop shortcut within Steam, and change the name and icon of the shortcut after that. The origianl launcher will then just be the easiest way to autoupdate or configure your controls.

Make shure to use "-mod MWLL" otherwise it won't work
There comes a point where the talking must stop, and people have to do actual work.

I've been trying to figure this out, myself, but it seems like it requires the MWLL launcher to actually run MWLL.  As mentions, this closes the overlay with the launcher and Steam won't recognize you're running a non-steam game.

I'll give Ingrater's suggestion a try with the Crysis Wars 64-bit executable in Steam, instead, see if I can get MWLL to boot directly that way.

I tried a few things like that first but the only way I could find that worked was via setting Launch Options from the main Steam game list. Perhaps you'll have more luck but this was the only good way I found. The launch options I have are "-dx9 -mod MWLL" (Ingrater was right, the mod name must be in capitals). Once you have that set and Create Desktop Shortcut, the shortcut will contain just "steam://rungameid/17340" rather than a regular executable.

Runs fine for me. I just alterered the launch options for Crysis Wars, adding '-mod MWLL'. I don't bother to run the launcher at all unless there is an update.

I have a retail copy of Crysis Wars, so in steam rather than "set launch options", theres only the option to change the target of the shortcut. I tacked -mod MWLL onto the end of the target, but that doesn't seem to work. Any other options?

Personally I've yet to try this on W7 Pro 64... if I can get my comp stable enough I'll try tonight to see if I can get the Steam overlay working or not...

Does Steam have voice chat associated with it?  Why yes it does.  And it's supposedly improved.

I wonder if this is a solution for the crysis voice chat issues.  Quite a few steam users in MWLL.  We should make a MWLL user group and use the voice chat maybe?
