I need a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. HALP!

My previous PC died. In it's death throes, it took my motherboard, CPU, and RAM with it. I need advice on what to buy. I'd like whatever the most current chipset is, if it's not ludicrously expensive. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Work with us here... What cpu manufacturer do you prefer, Intel or AMD? Which graphics cards do you prefer, AMD/ATI, or NVidia? How much money do you want to spend? How much ram?

Hm a far for motherboard id prefere some unlockable amd like phenom be 720 or similar and some motherboard that unlocks it As for ram geil,patriot gskil,muskin (2X2gb should be enough )or anything that goes to 1600 mhz and does not have latency bigger than 8 .
And thats about roughly 300 dollars.

Preference: I prefer Intel over AMD, Nvidia over AMD/ATI.

As to what I want in a MoBo, I'd like it to be upgradeable in the future if something really awesome comes out down the line. I use a 64bit OS, so I'll probably end up wanting at least 8 gigs of ram.

I'd primarily use the system for gaming and I'd like to be able to play new games at their highest setting or at least close to it.

I honestly don't know what else to tell you. Anything else I need to give you guys?

Well this is pretty easy.  $500-$700 could either include a video card or not....let's assume it should include one

Only problem is socket 1155 motherboards are still MIA, but figure a good board for $150

That's $730 for vid card, cpu, motherboard and 8Gb of fast memory.  This is just a quickie job...I didn't do any digging, you could probably do fine with 4Gb of ram to save a little cash, i am assuming you are already owning a x64 copy of Windows 7, if not add $100.  You could build it a fair bit cheaper by going with an AMD Phenom II X4 or X6 cpu and motherboard setup and it would handle things just fine with that video card.  Performance will be overall faster with the 2500K cpu but it also costs more.

For reference I built my system in the sig below for $500 roughly.  955BE X4 CPU, Asus Mobo, Ripjaw GSkill 2x2Gb DDR3 1600 memory, and a 460GTX 1Gb overclocked video card.  I am running a mild overclock on air cooling @ 3.7Ghz and I run every game out there wide open with great success.  BFBC2, maxed out, MWLL maxed out and then some, GRID, maxed out.....Thats about all I play these days, It ran Dead Space 2 wide open too......so you don't need to spend quite as much as you think if you already have a good case, power supply, monitor, etc....

I just wrote this in another thread, but make sure you get a good power supply with plenty of amps on the rails, too, because the ###wattage doesn't mean all that much.  A lot of places will sell you a crappy power supply with a large wattage # that is actually inferior to a model with a lower wattage #, so check the specs.

What OS are you running now?  Cause if you're just now getting on the 4GB ram band wagon, i HIGHLY suggest putting some of your funds towards Win 7 64bit.

4GB in an Win7 environment isn't much imho which reminds me I need 4 more to max teh mobo

that may be true but it's plenty enough for running MWLL or any other game out there right now, Crysis is by far one of the most memory intensive games still today, but even it doesn't use more than about 3Gb at the very most in a x64 environment

if he buys 4Gb of ram and a 2Gb video card that's 6Gb of memory being addressed by the system which requires an x64 operating system to utilize fully

i thought about going 8Gb but that extra $50 would have put me over budget, and now that i see memory utilization habits of x64 Win 7 i am glad i didn't waste the $50

Hear, hear.  Way too many people skimp on the power supply because it is not an FPS-increasing item.  A good quality power supply will last you for your next two or three builds, which leaves you more cash for the go-fast bits on your next upgrade.
