Crysis 2
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:13:06 AM »
This is just a passing question out of curiosity, but is there any plan down the road to port the game to the Crysis 2 version of Crytek?

I'm mostly asking because I'm wondering if I should get a copy now, for later use down the road - I'm guessing it will be quite a few months even if the answer is Yes.  There's so many factors at work, I'm guessing it's no, but thought I'd ask - everything from engine compatibility to the availability of an SDK, to the fact if there would be any technical benefit for upgrading are involved.  About the only benefit that immediately comes to mind is a "much larger install base of the game to attract newcomers," but that's the only thing springing to mind, unless the graphics/netcode is vastly improved over the Wars version.

Hell, since I've not been following it too closely, I wouldn't be surprised to find out Crysis 2 runs on a completely rebuilt engine - not many companies steadily improve existing engines for years (i.e. Valve).

Anyway, that's all really - if the devs are planning an upgrade, not planning an upgrade or themselves are undecided on it.  Thanks!
I will personally hunt you down and poptart your leg while your back is turned and you're in your base.

Way too early...

I played the demo - Crysis 2 seems to be just a console port of Crysis 1, nothing really new.
The framerates are improved, yeah - even on hardcore I get more fps than in Crysis Wars on normal BUT thats just because of the tiny (!) maps and less details than in Crysis 1.

Crysis 2 looks like a step backwards to me, turning Crysis in a casual console egoshooter.

I never saw the original Crysis games as anything more than a fun to play shooter. Were the gfx awesome? Sure, suit powers cools? definitely but overall nothing that set it apart from what had been done in the past.

Which is why I (and I would imagine some others) purchased Crysis solely for playing MWLL. Crysis never interested me, until I started hearing more and more about this mod at least.

Can we talk about how the only reason any of here still keep these Cry games installed is MWLL???  8)

There are some other fun/beautiful mods for Crysis 1 as well - they just don't have MWLL's replay value ;)

Search for "Living Hell" on Moddb, turn your settings on very high and enjoy, it's simply beautiful.

6vs6 Infantry only MP, no definite yes/no about a Mod SKD, a ton of Crysis assets that would've have to be redone from scratch or replaced with Crysis 2 ones...
I'd say the chances are slim, but I'm fine with that ;)

There are no vehicles in Crysis 2... not exactly an ideal platform for MWLL ;)

Seriously why the hell would they remove vehicles? let the retarded consoles play in their padded tiny playpens while PC users get the entire yard. I was going to wait for a sale before i got crysis 2 anyhow but now that sales going to have to be a $3-5 sale.

Well this is the Crysis 2 Demo. Do we in fact know there are no vehicles? I can say one thing for sure, Toth knows!

Also it is really good to see all of the new features present in CryENGINE3. This was really an amazing amount of work for the time Crytek spent.

A game mode exclusive to PC, where all the evil Pirates dwell and no profit can be made?

Oh and Snipers on small maps like the ones in the demo? No really necessary...

I imagine the full version will have larger maps with vehicles, and hopefully some other fun gametypes like the power struggle that make you move around the map

I really doubt it since none of the previews so far had any vehicles in them...
And to many people, a more "BF-like" game mode would be a major selling point.

SP has vehicles, I'm pretty sure some of the previews have shown them.
