The Ongoing Positive Feedback thread
« on: March 02, 2011, 11:16:43 PM »
Given some of the recent threads around here, I think it's high time we had a thread like this:  An official ongoing Positive Only thread.  This is a place to post about:

  • Things you really like about the mod in general - that it does better than past MechWarrior games
  • Changes made in updates, both past and upcoming, that you feel enhance the game
  • The devs handling of any given situation around the game, be it a bug fix, changes to a map or inclusion of a much-wanted feature

While I am not an admin and cannot enforce the rules of the thread, there is but only one:

  • If you can't say something nice, don't say it.  This includes to devs, other players who like a change you may not, or anybody.  Negative feedback belongs elsewhere!

Given this is one of the best incarnations of MechWarrior to date, I'm sure there's plenty of nice things to say.  Have at it!
I will personally hunt you down and poptart your leg while your back is turned and you're in your base.

Well, when the radar mechanics changed from 0.2 and 3 I was very, very pleased.  This mod has been the bees knees, and the bugs hugs since the start.  Keep it up, rock it like a socket guys!!! ;D ;D ;D

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

I'll start (in a post separate from the OP so it can remain separate and clear):

One thing I've always wanted to praise to whoever is responsible:  How LRMs work.  This is the first MechWarrior where the minimum range thing feels perfect - aside from the fact they won't arm for IS, the upwards/downward arc even for Clan LRMs does a perfect job of making them feel just right.  They were really nailed perfectly.

Second, I love the fact extra care was given to including a lot of electronic packages.  This was one of the best things about 4, and they did a great job of blending the mechanics of 4 with CBT here giving many more options:  ECM, GECM, AECM, BAP, BHP, Enhanced Optics and even a great take on C3!  This really lets units have different grades of options and gives them more unique roles and lets the specialty units really shine.

And one more for now:  Being the first MechWarrior game to let me pilot a hovercraft in multiplayer.  I've always loved hovercraft in CBT, but until now, the only instance of getting to actually drive one was a single player mission in MW2: Mercs.  For the first time they are not only in MechWarrior, but perfectly balanced into the game.  While they started out terribly underpowered in the first release, they're now highly effective backstabbers and raiders.  Major props.
I will personally hunt you down and poptart your leg while your back is turned and you're in your base.

One thing I love so much about this mod is how they make every weight class feel useful at all phases of the game.

TC really helped reinforce the feeling as well.

One thing that sticks out in particular for me is the feel of piloting the mechs. I feel like i'm inside one of these fappers. I dig.

As already mentioned, I like the way that each weight category of 'mech is useful.

It's a small touch, but I really like how the radar has different icons for different weight category 'mechs and vehicles.

Let's see, so far:
Lights mechs not a complete joke like older MW games.
Lasers work about right. (been broken as hell in other MW games)
LRM fire rate change was a giant leap for small salvo LRM.
MRMs work about right (barring bugs).
Pace of damage is good now.
Heat system itself is about right.
PPC, ERPPC, CERPPC, all work just right.
JJs have optimal thrust and directability.

I also love the TC game mode, it really reinforces teamwork  8)

Also just the huge amount of choice available in 'Mechs/Vehicles and their variants. And it's good to know even more choice is on the way  8)

I enjoy shooting battlemechs with Missiles (oh and lasers as well, and PPCS, and guns and such, don't forget those).

I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

Indeed, that reminds me about the upgrade they did to the NARC.  I always loved the concept of NARCs but in the early builds, I wasn't confident in using them because they felt a little too prone to lag - not even mentioning how ineffective they were in MW4.

However, they went and gave the NARC some small tracking capability on a target lock and it was a night & day difference!  Now the NARC is highly effective and a great tool that helps teamwork even more.  Plus, making the AECM act as a NARC counter keeps it from becoming overpowered.  All in all, this is by far the best implementation of the NARC beacon I've seen and it's a blast to use in-game.

Playing on Wars!

And the fact that the community is growing all the time.

Death Valley....just love it.

The way ASF pop like a bursting balloons and then fall down in smoke and flame.

Splashing BA from 900-1200m...that never gets old 8)

And my lovely, lovely tanks.

Clearcut, sometimes I just stop and look at the scenery as day turns to night, or at dawn....stunning stuff.

EDIT: And the Siege Engine....dakka dakka dakka...whoosh 8)

The satisfaction of occasionally making a BA exsplatplode midair using AC20 always gets me :D

I also love that everyone seems to find their niche of assets they really like or are good in.
