Hrmpf, first the game doesn't update properly (probably because I had started updating to a previous version but never finished it) so I've had to completely redownload the 2 Gb client and now I've go no mouse cursor in the menus and only a black background which apparently can be fixed by validating/repairing the files, which is taking far longer than downloading the 2Gig did... :'(

EDIT:
So I finally got to play and at first I looked at the Unlocks and thought that HiRez had gone back to the insane prices, but then I finished a round and got 1600 Exp for a rather sub-par performance, (not sure if it was doubled for the first win) so they seem to have increased Exp gain quite a bit.
Will have to play a bit more and see how this pans out, but so far I'm pleasantly surprised at how much they've changed.

The customization isn't all that extensive yet, but this is far better than locked classes with no customization at all.

Before the current patch there was 1200/100 exp/token awarded for the FWOTD. First win of the day. Not sure how it is now as I won't be able to play till next week.

Hmm, not sure, I did have another mediocre round where I got ~930 Exp...

Btw, some things are still priced rather high, the Thumper for the Technician?
170000 Exp :o
Same price for the new Tribes 2 style Laser Sniper...

Rajveer was kind enough to PM me a beta key, but thanks anyways Tripod.  I can't wait to give this a try.

So I registered, entered my key and downloaded the game.  This shit just isn't working for me.  Whenever I launch the game, I cannot see my mouse cursor whatsoever, and it crashes every damn time I try and log in.  The first time I got as far as accepting the EULA and entering my ingame nickname, but I've not made it past the initial login screen since.

Xesle, start the "Hi-Rez Diagnostics and Support" thingy and let it validate/repair, takes a while but helped me with the same problem (although I was able to log in).
It'll take a while though...

Eh, it's quite nice, but I wouldn't say it's godlike.

And I don't get those pictures ::)

Ran the diagnostic and got everything working just fine and I've played around 10 matches already.  It didn't take me as long as I expected it would to learn how to get around and lead my shots enough to hit fast moving targets.  My biggest frustration so far isn't a problem with the game itself, but a problem apparent in all online games: thick teammates.  Pretty damned annoying whenever whole team is sitting around flag but the enemy still can walk in and out without taking so much as a single hit.  It is equally frustrating whenever I'm trying to capture the enemy team's flag and there are 3 heavies sitting there with chainguns, force fields and loads of other goodies that wreck me instantly.

Playing team deathmatch was a bit of a relief though.  I didn't score many kills, but I held onto the flag longer than anyone else that round by skiing around the outskirts of the map constantly.

Really liking the new update so far.
As for the crazy prices, I am betting they want people to buy weapons mainly with gold (pricing seems much better for gold then for XP). This probably means they switched what you pay for from mainly classes to mainly weapons. They will still need to get money in after all. I am betting they want to aim at something where you buy everything you end up paying more then you do for a standard boxed game, but if you buy just the things you typically like you end up paying a bit less then a standard boxed game.

And as for the woes of public play.. that will not change ever I believe. Some matches are good, some are horribad. Had a round now when I tried out the new when I had to switch from capping to flag defence out of pure frustration. When I returned for the third time in a row with the enemy flag only to find our flag stand devoid of friendlies, an enemy capper lazily cruising by to snag the unguarded flag and disappear before my eyes and no one coming to support me in the stand-off or even just presenting themselves so I could pass off the flag I just had enough and switched to Doombringer and camped the flag. That however turned out to be rather fun so...

If you want to play and get a good score you really need to adapt your play-style to how your team happens to be playing. That or just have fun without aiming for a good score (like finding routes or something). No sense trying to be a route capper if your team is clustering the enemy stand and are content with low speed grabs and just fighting it back to base. No sense doing flag defence if there are already 4 guys camping your stand. No sense going for offense to disrupt if there are no defenders to disrupt etc etc. Rather annoying when you want to play a certain role and there is just no call for it, but such is life in a pub game.

Ive been getting a fair amount of XP now that all classes shae EXP also i can spread the love. I got doombringer up to snuff and rock it now using the heavy bolt launcher which i have fallen in love with. The new system is a fair bit bettter IMO.

Also got a couple of my mates online now so having teams with a fre good players cooperating verbaly realy lets ya all rake in more exp which seems to come along much better.

Also i do not know if everyone got booster but i got liek 19 days of boosted xp.

so i tried it out.  Feels easier to pickup than the old tribes. Bringing weapons down to just two per class is pretty interesting choice, falls inline with making it easier to pick up I suppose.

Got to play a bunch this weekend, weapon prices are a bit over the top IMO. Had a good time playing though, rather enjoyed scaring the shit out of people with 250 km/h flag grabs as a soldier.

meh the xp prices makes sense. they want you to spend money so you can get the unlocks faster. otherwise it's a long long time before you unlock some of the stuff.

I'm loving the new maps.  I'm thinking the volcano map and the new arena matches are my favorite parts now.
I should really get back to CTF some day, but darn it I'm slinging fusion disks on fricking Mustafarr now!  8)
