Space Station 13
« on: March 16, 2011, 02:15:17 PM »
So yeah, this game... it's kinda like Dwarf Fortress in a few ways. First, losing is all but inevitable. Second, it usually happens either very fast or very slow. It also has primitive graphics. Lastly, losing is really really fun.

I spent last night playing it with my bros in Clan Jade Wolf. Most of my first game involved wandering around figuring out how stuff works, and after maybe 15 minutes I got randomly infected with a zombie virus. eRkkituo noticed my symptoms and dragged me to the medical bay, where a doctor repeatedly stabbed me with a syringe, but all that ended up doing was causing my skin to rot. Shortly thereafter I joined the ranks of the living dead and ate several brains.

In my next game I got assigned the position of Chef. Some random asshole broke into my kitchen, but Deathbane came to the rescue. He was a mighty Brobot and with beer in hands and with shouts of "Happiness is mandatory!" he knocked my assailant out, who I then threw into the aptly named Gibber and made into hamburgers. Chaos later ensued when a singularity ate half the station and Ensalus started snipping all the power cables.

Oh and another thing it has in common with DF - it's freeware!

I've had many a fun game with IRCJW, worth doing some reading first though. The control system isn't exactly second nature.

Well worth checking out.

good times. Loved the round with me as the captain and Ensalus packing my spare ID so we could troll at will. Also, I can't believe how long we bludgeoned that chef with his rolling pin and the dead guys PDA.

He didn't die until he picked up your revolver and shot himself in the head. ::)

This whole thing sounds strangely... interesting...  :o

Might have to check it out later.

Is there a way to create a closed server for testing and starting out purposes, so I can try it out with some friends first?

There is a wiki though ;)

Hmm, seems rather interesting, I'll definitely try it out soonish.

I have played 2 rounds now and it was great.
The totally confusing, wtf is going on type of great.

In the first round I picked the Assistant because I wanted to be free to try stuff, and thew wiki stated that this would be the best choice for that because they don't have any important jobs.
After I figured out the basic interaction and movement options I started exploring the ship. Somehow I ended up in the maintenance shaft between Hydroponics and outer space, where I found a bomb lying on the floor, exploding seconds after I figured out how to use my radio, and leaving my in a gibbed mess  ::)
At the end of the round I saw that a traitor had the mission to kill the hydroponist (is that even a word? ;D), guess I stumbled over his attempt to blow that guy up together with his workshop. Talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time  :'(

Second game I ended up as the janitor.
I made myself a fun time by cleaning the main traffic routes and leaving them wet for no apparent reason, and placing "wet floor" signs at random places where my mop never met the floor.  ;D
I had some happy time watching people run trough the corridors only to suddenly fall flat onto their faces, and watch them go slooooowly in other corridors even tough they had no real reason to  ::)  I am an evil person.

You're a choir boy compared to CJW's antics.

Sprafe and I played for a couple hours last night, and things got... interesting. I was the janitor first round, and before long the bar became overrun with rivers of poo. I was out of cleaning grenades however, and I accidentally drank some of it while trying to clean it. The result? I kept falling over and shitting myself, and I had to be dragged to medbay. "Food poisoning".... Then after that I landed assistant, but Sprafe got Chief Engineer. He let me into a place where I snagged some insulated gloves and wire cutters, and we went around systematically cutting power. Fun times.

Well, according to the Wiki:
"Injuring or killing crew, sabotaging or destroying the station, and otherwise fapping shit up for other players without a good reason to be doing so is considered Griefing. There is a line between greifing and permissible shenanigans, but it is subjective and up to the presiding admin to decide."

Well on one hand it's a first offense and he had no warning. But on the other, I overheard someone saying in OOC chat later that day that griefing with plasma is almost always ban-worthy. But then again, is it perma-ban worthy? I guess that's not for me to decide. :-\

Would turning off lights be considered griefing? I played the game twice, both times i got only assistant as a job option... which in game people say i do not really have much to do... lol
