Your current favorite variants (any asset)
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:36:24 AM »
After playing MWLL for quite some time now, i find i change favorite variants every now and then. When 0.1.0 came out, i never touched a mech i was all about the Sulla B. I then went from BA only games to loving the AA Huit, the gauss/ppc Scat, the UAC10/ppc madcat, the CHLL Morrigu, the HL Puma, and most recently the Beatstick Shiva - which is my current favorite variant.

When i save enough money for one of these, i can literally clear the skies in 5 minutes if i dont get spammed by several Huits. It takes ONE shot to down anything thats airborne, even another shiva (if it exposes its large side to you). When that is done it can also be used well against ground forces, picking off wounded assets with one shot as they run away from battle.

Your current favorite variants and why you like them so much. Go.

Uller Prime - Versatile. Not as lame as the damn gimmicky Owens laser boat.

Scat A - Absolutely lethal at any point in the game, especially if I really want to kill a heavier mech quickly.

In general, I try not to get into heavies/assaults as they seem a bit too easy to wrack up kills with, but I enjoy the balanced loadouts of the Thor and some of the Vultures (D primarily).

Basically, if my team is winning I definitely do not go for heavies/assaults I just save my Cbills.  If we're losing I may consider it, but I usually force my self to practice with the mediums more.

Owens C only long enough to jump to puma D.
Once I get to a scat I play the entire round in either variant except the D
No heavies typically, maybe a ncat c if i need to get a lot of work done but any scat variant is sufficient for most situations.
Absolutely no assaults except on UJ.
And dedicated BA about half of my matches.

Starter Unit (If I can get a couple k loan) - Puma E, ATM 9s early on can be devastating.  Of course you have to be careful, Light mechs are fast enough to close inside 150m quickly.

Mid Round Unit - Shadow Cat Prime / B, I love them both in different ways.  I can either stand off and do solid damage from afar.  Or have a highly mobile close range punch.

End Round Unit - Mad Cat B / E, it depends both are solid battlemechs and losing one arm or ear won't cripple them.

Assaults - I typically don't like using assaults.  Sometimes I find it useful to get a dual LAMS Angel ECM Atlas, but I have been finding the Mauler variants D/E entertaining lately.  Especially since Come and See has tried to convert me to the cause of MRM pwn.

"Yes I'd like your arm, leg, or head" Unit - Shiva E b00mstick (FBS), this of course isn't allowed on every server, but I had a riot on Saturday (When the server I normal play on was locked and where you aren't supposed to do this) being "that guy" legging everyone on the enemy team.  Left six legged battlemechs in a grave yard of sorts outside the G4 base in Death Valley.  They had just wiped my team out and were about to take G4, killing six mechs would have taken to long.  So six passes later I had six immobile mechs laying on the ground.  Good times and taking Nova Cat arms is almost as much fun...

Owens C
Shadowcat A (depending on map)
Bushwhacker A (depending on map)
Vulture E/D (depending on map)
Madcat B/E (depending on map)

If there are a LOT of planes I will take a madcat mk2 with the atm12's.

I hate Aircraft in this game, if I die from one, I leave.  I wish I could just fire back at them from a Mech.

Still think an LBX20 Thor is superior to most any other mech for downing Aeros.  It's ability to look up further than most other mechs, plus the LBX20's pwn aero factor, make it absolutely lethal.

Most rounds

Osiris Prime
Uziel Prime/Bush D
Wh Prime/Thanny C
Mauler D/Awesome C

If on clan side

Uller Prime/Heph Prime
Cougar Prime/ Scat Prime/B
THOR A!/ Loki Prime
MKII D/ rarely Ncat Prime

Rarely need to move beyond Thor A.

I usually choose all sorts of crap for variety, but these are the gotos and if I'm never really challenged I will stay in them.

Owens C or Osiris C
until I can rank up/ get enough cash for
Hollander B
from which I go to
Bushwacker A/B/E
and then the rapemachine
Thor A

I don't bother with assault mechs in TC, and in TSA only rarely. Mostly it's either the Beatstick or LBL Awesome.

Aero? What's that? Oh, the irritating things I shoot out of the sky with my CLPL and UAC20. Well, I never.

Tanks? ....naw dude. They see me rollin', they LongTom-'splodin'.

Eh, favourites get repetitive so I am found in a number of mechs. Still have favourites that I know will always work and give me a fun playing experience though...

Starter: Kitfox Prime (See KorbinWimmers post for reasons why. I agree 100%)
Lights: Adder Prime!
Medium: Shadowcat A, Bushwacker A
Heavy: Summoner A!

/Merf - Some come and go, some remain (seemingly) forever

I try out different variants dedending on boredom or tactical situation. I've only been playing a few months so there are plenty I haven't tried yet. Right now though the Partisan Prime and Bushy E are my go-to machines for most rounds. Still experimenting with heavies and assaults since I have only recently been able to get enough money for them somewhat consistently.

I also seem to find myself in the Huit prime a lot lately too if there are lots of aero out there. It's just sooooooo sllloooooww...

TC or TSA (close/medium range contact)
Owens C
Hollander B
Puma D
Bushy B
Holly A
Scat A
Bushy A
Thanatos C
Vulture B
Thor A
Awesome B
Warhammer A
Atlas A
Mk2 B

TSA (long range contact)
Parti Prime
Puma E
Cougar E
Puma C
Huit Prime
Scat Prime
Scat C
Demo A
Awesome Prime
Awesome A
Novacat A
Madcat B

Why do I like them so much? Because they each fit a specific role within their weight class and specialize in raping face in that role.

All of the Harassers except the LRM one (because it takes half of eternity for them to lock on). The Harasser is just hilarious to pilot, especially the SSRM and Flamer ones.

RAC Hawkmoth and Lgauss Hawkmoth (ERPPC Hawkmoth too, pretty please?)

Warhammer Prime
PPC Catapult
Uziel Prime if it wasn't so goddamn wide. I love its weapons and mobility, but shots constantly go straight past the enemy from the guns converging wrong.

Agreed on the Harassers being goofy. I tried the SSRM one and every single time I fired both at the same time (group fire) the damn thing did a backflip.
