I think you're thinking of IPX/SPX, as far as I can remember, IPX/SPX and TCP/IP have always been separate, with Vista and 7 dropping IPX/SPX in favour of TCP/IP

When i get home tonight ill see if i can get a copy of MC 1 and then see if i can fandangle it to run on my VM with XP.

Honestly though folks if you're going to play some old school games best to just get a virtual machine set up with windows 98 on it for things like MC1 and MW2. XP can also run some of the older stuff.

Never ever use the Atlas W or J. It has as much or maybe less armor then a Jagermech A

Runs fine in native Windows 7 if you install using compatibility mode (xp or 98) all works except for the greyed out "Network" option.  Played the 1st mission - shat all over that kit fox (and salvaged)

Tried installing to "Windows XP Mode" under windows 7 (the provided virtual machine), get an error along the lines of "unable to continue running executable" whenever I try and run it,

Anyone tried using vm-ware etc?

Might have to try installing xp native to one of my older machines just for this!

I'll have to try installing again in compatibility mode.  I could only get MC2 to work a few months ago when I tried, and from what I read MC2 is an inferior game to MC1.

MC2 single player was a joke - aggro the whole map with a Razorback and then run away while the rest of your units peeled off the Razorback.  I tried not to do it that way as much as possible, but knowing that the AI was that retarded put me off.

It seems that the Network button is grayed out, because a file is missing in the MCG installation directory: Network.fst ...

The Bears have mechcommander gold multiplayer working.  You need a game service called game ranger, but we have confirmed this is working and have had a few games.  SOO AMAZING!

SO, who is up for some 1999 mech strategy action?!
