BApocalypse?
« on: April 06, 2011, 04:10:59 AM »
As apparently quite a few players seem to be missing some competitive action and BAs are usually under-represented in any matches... how about a team-based BA only short fun competition?

If there is enough interest i'd want this to encourage some team-play - teams would simply sign up via the forum and don't have to be from any unit or anything. Also it wouldn't take up much of anyones time, so hopefully some of the unaffiliated players would form teams as well. The things i'm unsure about are the actual team-sizes and wether there is enough interest, thus the poll.

Input, opinions, ...?

i would say 15 vs 15 mach on a ba only map.. lets say capture the dropship ( a kind of capture the flag with king of the hill, with who ever holds the dropsip gets tickets..)
I was a mechwarrior like you once; until i took a arrow to my mech's knee ...

I can see a 5 vs 5, or more battle going down. i'll bet that I'll be the one of its leaders in score. At 375 BA Mech kills. you bet your ass I will.

Would surely be fun, but at the moment i don't see where teams of those size would come from.
For 5v5 we should be able to get some teams together if there is enough interest.

How 'bout TSA Marshes?  Let both teams park 2 APC/team, at predetermined grids.  No attacking the APCs.  I think there are plenty of folks that would do this.  Make it an event.   :)

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

Let me know when and where, so I can schedule real life events to coincide with this.

At first I thought this would be cool. But then I realised all BAs would just camp with a ready MPPC, waiting for someone within 500m to move.
You would probably not have much close quarter combat.

I love BA combat, but... AC2 sort of ruins it for me.
Boring fights BA vs BA with the AC2 I think.

Fixed

/Merf - Would otherwise fully endorse some BA matches for fun.

My idea was to have somewhat confined arenas with a fair amount of cover anyway like the Sandblasted center area (which would also get rid of the boring walk-to-battle period). At least in the small fun-battles we had previously i haven't seen much camping.

This is true. With a good "arena" there will be little to no camping. Still have the issue with the AC2 killing a BA in 2 shots though.
I guess this is a matter of preference though. Most fun BA duels I have had have been MPPPC, SRMs, Nades, only. Few things look as awesome as an air gib with the MPPPC.

Hm, but then the mPPC or SRM2-salvoes can one-shot BAs.
I guess if there is enough interest to make this happen and the AC2 is really shown to be overpowered we could see how to deal with it in possible later iterations :)

Hm, but then the mPPC or SRM2-salvoes can one-shot BAs.

The difference is the effort it takes to do that.
Grenade launcher in q1 fires faster then the rocket launcher and deals 100-110 damage. Rocket launcher deals 100 damage. Which is generally the better weapon? Well the rocket launcher...
Which is more impressive, air-gib with a rocket launcher or a grenade launcher? Well, the grenade launcher.

Same for quake 3 if you compare a railgun and a rocket launcher. Rocket launcher has the same one hit damage as the railgun and fires faster. It is still much easier to get an air gib with a railgun then a rocket launcher. Most players if they had to choose only one weapon, would pick the railgun.

Say you click your shots with the AC2 you can get 6 or 8 shots in for every one MPPPC? That is 3 to 4 potentially killed BA for every 1 potential kill for the MPPPC.
But this is really more of a discussion on the AC2 "stealing" other weapons roles (It is a sniper, Close combat, stealth, anti-mech, anti-BA weapon all at once). Not really intending this to be any form of claim as to the weapon being over powered or not. Just a comment that I think it promotes boring (for me personally) gameplay.

/Merf - Drawbacks? This weapon have none.

Our Pilot, Azov, has already worked on BA only area's on maps, sadly for now they are intraclan only as they are not complete but I for one can say that BA only maps are extremely fun ;D
