I definitely used the installer that came with the SDK.  Meaning, I didn't unzip it manually. I guess I was using "extract" liberally.  I wonder if I do a fresh install if I'll screw up my map.

The SDK came with 3 applications:
SouceCode_v1.0
SPMOD_v1.0
Tools_v1.1  (This is the one that contains the Sandbox 2 Editor Application and is the only install necessary for most of your map making needs.

I only installed the last one.  Could that be the problem? Reinstalled.  Eureka! Environment Tab is there and my map is not damaged in anyway.  I had autoexec renamed this time.  I wonder if that screwed up the initial install.  Wow I finally can get my ocean the color that I want it to be.  I'm probably a bit too excited about this change in events.

Onward into the mist of problems and compromises that are yet to come!!! ;D

Wait, that sounds a bit like marriage  :o

btw Blhurr: check out if you still get that error when you drag that hangar-prefab on the map, if you do let me know and I gonna have a look at it, you might be using a wrong one...

I had the correct prefabs but my faulty installation was causing the errors with the mechhangars.  After the reinstall, I dropped new hangars down and have since spawned assets from them on a dedicated server.  They look different because they have triggers etc. (white spherical things) attached to them and the textures are correct and I no longer get stuck in the floor.

Now I'm having an issue with the voxel subtraction tool.  It doesn't seem to carve as far back as the box I outlined and it only works on a couple of the textures tiles.  I think the cave I'm carving is far too large or something.  I tried splitting the voxel object into 8 pieces smaller cubes but that didn't help much.  I'll try a much smaller cave and see if it's a scale issue.

Glad you got the major issues sorted...

For your voxel tool, by default it only "carves" along the actual polygonal surface.. there are a couple of buttons in the voxel panel labelled "Align to Plane", "Setup Position" and "Init Position" ... those 3 buttons are what controls the "planar carving angle" for the voxel tool...

Its a little hard and unintuitive to explain exactly how they work, basically.. when you turn on the "Init Position" button, you will be presented with a small "grid object" that you can position and rotate however you want.... once you have it where you want.. click "align to plane" and your voxel brush will follow and carve along the plane... the "Setup Position" button is used to alter an already setup grid object

I would suggest having a search and finding some crymod tutorials on the voxel tools for CE2... there are a few things to be aware of when using them though...
1. save save save and save some more.... it will causes editor crashes
2. take regular backups of your map folder while working with voxels, and store it outside the Wars folder structure(this is more my own personal safety thing rather than needed... but when the editor crashes, if you happen to be saving or writing to the level in anyway at the time.. it will screw it up beyond recovery)
3. use them sparingly and try to ensure they can be occluded as much as possible when not inview, as they can become very expensive very quickly. For cave systems, try to enclose them inside Vis-Areas as this allows them to be completely occluded when not inview.
"Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate"

Good advice.  I was thinking about cheating and creating an object for the cave ceiling instead of digging the whole thing out.  Check that.  I got it to work the way the tutorials have it.  Not sure why it was getting stuck before.  Amazingly fun.
