 This. I do like Portal and I would definitely play the second one but I feel no urgency to play games as soon as they are released. Besides, waiting about a year or so would give game devs enough time to fix all the nastiest bugs, that are usually populating the freshly-released game nowadays.

Two out of the last three games I have bought on release had a lot of problems (Black Ops and Crysis 2).  As a result, I am very hesitant to buy anything on release at this point.  I will wait to see what other people's experiences are before I take the plunge on this one...but I *do* want to pick it up soon.

I think more game companies need to provide trial downloads.

Rift had a few open Beta phases that I was able to try and I got pretty well hooked on it. Enough to pull me away from EQ2.

while i found portal to be a moderately fun game i see no reason to pick up portal two. the first portal was a largely self contained story and as such has no need of a sequel, also, the game, IMHO, never really got hard and as such never got that fun.

Thanks to an arrangement with Sturm, I already have my copy pre-loaded and waiting. I can't really afford to spend money on the Potato Sack games, but I've nabbed a few potatoes by playing some demos and joining the NELIPOT Steam group to help generate a little more electro-chemical energy to speed the release

While I enjoyed portal, I'm not even remotely excited about portal 2. I'm not sure why. Running around solving puzzles with the portal gun is fun, I'm just not sure its $50 game kind of fun. So I'm waiting for the reviews.

Plus, I got REALLY sick of hearing about how "wonderful" the story to Portal was. Yeah it was funny, yeah it was interesting. But no, a homicidal computer is not exactly groundbreaking storytelling.

 Why? I'm pretty sure it would be totally like Portal 1 but once more.   Valve would never make it much worse(or much different for that matter) from the original one and, knowing the might of their QC, there would be no game-braking bugs(if any at all). So you can pretty much read the Portal 1 reviews and have the accurate enough impression of what Portal 2 is. So if that's the only thing that stops you from buying at release, then why waiting? Me, I'm waiting it to be $20.

I think its a case of I'm worried the portal-puzzles would get boring after a while. The end of Portal 1 left me with the feeling of "That was fun, wouldn't want it to be any longer". I don't want to play $50 for a game that just 20 hours of portal puzzles and a loveable talking robot. So I guess I too am waiting for the $20-30 price point.

Reviews may sway me the other way and pick it up sooner, but I don't put much faith in the average game critic either. So very many are fanboys. For example: Few reviews of Dragon Age 2 even mentioned the game numerous faults. Most reviews were "Yay Bioware! Everything they do is gold!". Valve gets a lot of the same treatment. L4Dead2 was fun, but didn't feel like a sequel to Left4Dead, just a fancy map pack. I felt a little ripped off.
