need some tech help
« on: June 15, 2009, 10:23:19 PM »
I tested my PC on one of those will it run crysis sites and everything passes really good except my lol NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE 430 video card. I bought this PC out of the box and I knew my Video card would fail, but so far this game is the only one I won't be able to play as is. Which is not bad considering I know jack diddily about computers. But anyways I need a new video card that is A:) cheap, and B:) will be worth getting. (I.E. don't want to have to upgrade again for a long time.)
I know alot of people use that 8800 video card, but on visiting the NVIDIA sight all the different specs make my head spin. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a solid, cheap video card that will run on my system?

HP
AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core 5200+ 2.60 GHz
Ram 2 GB
OS = vistas 32 bit
not sure what my power supply is but I heard some cards need an extra power source for themselves. Would like to avoid running into that problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You might need to buy a New Computer entirely if your Motherboard uses an AGP slot. If Windows Vista came with your computer- that is not likely however. If you bought windows Vista with your computer- then you could go this route:

9600 GSO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121314 for $70

and

This power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031 for $40

A $110 upgrade that can Run Crysis well at Medium settings.

Check out this article, it might help:

Your CPU is a bit on the slow side, it might hold you back a bit.

Nvidia rebranded the 8800 twice, first into the 9800 and now it's sold as the GTS250. All these cards perform about the same except for the 9800GX2, which is two cards strapped onto one board.

You should have no problem even adding a PCI-Express 2.0 card to your motherboard, since its a socket AM2, or 939 to fit your CPU. I know of only a couple common motherboards made for those sockets that ever had an AGP option for graphics. It's likely you're compatible with ATi as much as you are with NVIDIA, though i'd check your motherboard model on google. Also, avoid purchasing a 9800gx2 card unless you are certain your motherboard has built in SLI compatibility, as it's 2 cards running SLI in a single slot. (Not certain if this applies, I haven't worked with single GPU boards since AGP went extinct)

You don't need a SLI motherboard for a 9800GX2 or a GTX295. The SLI link is inside the card itself. Only if you want to link two 295s together, then you need a SLI board.

that 9600gso is a slow card also, I would not recommend that card with Crysis in mind(especailly if you wanna see the pretty).  Personally, with the CPU you have(I've had one and have 2 friends that are using that CPU), I would look at the GTS250(the GTS250 is a upgraded 9800gtx). They are available for as low as $100 on newegg and alot more powerful than the 9600gso.
