I have a problem.  My computer is 3 years old and the best it can hold is dual 8600 gt's (PCIE1), an Athlon X2 4200+ processor (939), and 4 gigs of DDR1.

I currently have dual 6600gts, an Athlon 3500 processor, and 1 gig of pc3200 ram.

I'm thinking of just upgrading the ram and video card to the above spec.  A friend says he runs crysis on an Athlon 3000+, so I think mine can handle it.

Before I spend this money, I would like to know if you guys think I'll be able to run the game fairly well on this setup.  So, what do you think?

I run less than that.  AMD 3800+ X2 , 2GB DDR2 667 and an 8800GT.

30FPS Crysis, no less than 25 on high.
I feel that is acceptable.

Ok I'm not dumb but not that tech savy either so can someone explain how people are getting med to high settings with 3000 processors and 1 7000 series vid card when I cant run Crysis on low without freezing up running athlon 64 3800 oc'd to 2.6 and 2 6800GS SLI enabled. Any info would be appreciated Thank You!

Custom cfgs. They tweak pretty much everything in crysis to get top preformance and looks. If you struggling with preformance then definetly check them out.

As far as the OS, I have heard that people have had great success in buying Server 2008 and making a gaming workstation out of it.  This way you have DX10 and not the hog of Vista.

They basically tweak and overclock everything in the PC.  When they are done the word default doesn't exist anymore.  I'd overclock my processor but its locked.  Rig specifications are as follows: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+(3.0 GHZ per core), GeForce 8500 GT with 256MB, 500 GB SATA II, and 2GB(DDR2) don't know what brand.  I know the graphics card is the weak point of the system.  But the machine was bought at BestBuy.  Decent rig for something that came out of BestBuy IMO.  I'm planning to eventually upgrade the video card but that would entail also upgrading the power supply.  Any suggestions on how I could squeeze more power out of this PC.

P.S. Runs Crysis on Medium settings.  The cinematics are not synced up with the voice over but I can tolerate that.  Other than that it runs fine.

Very excited to read about this in PC gamer mag!

The only game/s I ever played on-line were MW4, Black knight expansion and Mercenaries (years ago).

I read FAQ's etc and understand why it will likely be only multiplayer. 

Only thing I could find by search of connection speed was reference to 2007 quake engine requiring broadband, and presumably crysis engine also needs broadband?

If this is the case, then I am doomed :-[

Definitely. Crysis has higher requirements than ET:QW in every regard, including connection speed and our mod won't be less demanding.

1gig of 2700 RAM!
7600GS (AGP no less)!
and an 80gig 5400rpm harddrive...

I can still run the mod...your computers are years ahead of mine!

I feel your pain up until 6 months ago I was running: AMD 3000+ XP, 1 gig of DDR PC3200, 6600 (obviously AGP) and a 40GB IDE hard drive. i didn't even bother playing the Crysis Demo in fear of my old system exploding  :(

Those new cards are going to be nuts.  I wonder if ATI will counter with something useful this time.
