Yes you definitely need a password or any random dude is going to come in there and disrupt your round.  Having a password ensures you that anyone joining the server has at least read this thread and understands the format, hopefully respecting the format and investigating the goings on before hopping in a mech and sniping at your last remaining team member right as he was about to turn the match around and win it for you.

I didn't want to start a new thread and this one looked the "best."

This thread is from quite a few months ago, and I know Open Merc Night got cancelled... but is there still interest in ad hoc scrims?  I am in desperate need of some non-pub game time and looking for ideas how to make that happen. ;)

Unfortunately I am stubborn and resist flopping into IRC, but figured PMs or emails would be best.

And to any who suggest trying to organize this *in* Teamspeak, I will say I've seen at most 5 people in there on my nights of play.

I think the biggest reason those impromptu merc nights died down was because of how slow they moved and because it was difficult consistently getting a stable server.  If you can solve those two problems I'm sure people would jump right back on it.

We are experiencing a waning in the nightly population right now from other video games (or massive amounts of overtime at work and a newborn in my case), but it can't really hurt to try.

Good point about the server.  If you don't have someone to run one for your scrims it kind of defeats the whole purpose.  Unfortunately I have no ability or knowledge of someone with the ability to make that happen. ;)

maybe we'll trick them into responding in this thread!

What about setting up a channel in outreach that we could just linger in if we want to join a scrim? That way I don't have so many things to monitor or get confused about. Ventrilo, TS, Irc, etc, etc? Most of us are on TS anyway and in outreach just loitering.

That's kinda how merc night worked in the past. Some would volunteer a server and a few other folk would poke everyone else on TS to see if they wanted to join in.

I'm saying set up a channel just for scrims on the fly in TS. Hell I'd be in it a lot waiting for a scrim, I think Twinkle would be too.  Wouldn't be too much to do, just set it up with a lobby and clan and IS side, for that matter change the Huntress channel, I never see anyone in it!

I think the problem is having someone avail that can prep/run a server for a scrim. Until we get those guys on schedule it doesn't matter how many others you get. ;)
