How do I get started?
« on: May 04, 2011, 12:31:48 AM »
Hey guys, sorry, I know NOTHING about video games.  The last game I played was MechWarrior 2 on MPlayer!  I have no idea what this Crysis thing is or how it works.

Can I download it from torrent?  Do I have to buy a legitimate copy?

Once I install Crysis I install MWLL?

Is there a moron's install guide?

Any/all help apreciated.  Looking forward to kicking around in some 'Mechs :D

Welcome to Mechwarrior: Living Legends.

You can purchase Crysis Warhead/Wars via direct download from EA: http://crysiswarhead.ea.com/, I however recommend acquiring an unused hard copy instead.

You may also retrieve Crysis Wars via STEAM: http://store.steampowered.com/video/17330/5086.

Remember to patch Crysis Wars to the Crysis Wars 1.5 Patch: http://crysis.filefront.com/file/Crysis_Wars_Patch_5_15;113733

Update your .NET Framework to at least .Net Framework 3.0 : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569263.aspx

The MWLL build can be dowloaded from this site: http://www.mwlldownload.com/

Instructions for the Install and other needed elements can be found  here:

Thank you for your swift response.

Would a cracked version of Crysis not work?

it will most certainly NOT work since the servers are all authenticated. And anyway that kind of thing is very frowned upon around here, so best to leave it at that.
Play my free open source web game MiniMek - Urbie Defense!  Its "mega fun" but with mini meks!

Fantastic!  Thank you kindly.

Just to clarify, what's the full title of the game -- it appears that there are several that appeared on my google search.

Crysis Warhead is what you need to buy, because it comes with Crysis Wars, which is what you need to play the game.  Just follow the links in KitLightning's post, and take the time to read the Installation Guide on the Wiki if you're still confused (also linked in his post).

Yeah, make sure you grab Warhead, which comes with Wars.  Vanilla Crysis will be discontinued as of the next patch.

Just a little clarification. Crysis: Warhead is the game you wish to buy. It comes with the multiplayer portion called Crysis: Wars. Basically the two games are the same, one is single player and one is multiplayer. Of course the Singleplayer game comes with the multiplayer one for free.

That gets confusing for a few people sometimes. But other then that, follow the direction KitLightning posted and you'll be good to go. Also make sure your computer can run Crysis Wars. If you haven't played video games in a while on the computer, its almost safe to say you might need to upgrade unless you just bought the computer like yesterday  :)

Thank you for the clarification!  I was going to swing by the video game store tonight and ask the very questions you have detailed above.  I'll read through the installation guide to make sure I know what I'm getting into and won't need to go back to the store ;)

The computer I'm on is able to run World of Warcraft Catacalysm on it (wife's game) fairly smoothly.  Is this an indicator regarding Crysis Wars' performance capabilities?

Select Crysis Warhead from the pulldown tab, install the little plugin thing, then it'll tell you all about your system in regard to this game.

That's a cool utility.  It turns out, I am in the green with "Pass" all over the place.  Is that adequate?  Is there a higher ranking, or is it just pass/fail?

If the test is passed, your fine. Though if your under Windows XP, you may experience memory allocation issues.

Did you pass on both (minimum and recommended) or just minimum? Either way, you'll be able to play, just don't be surprised if you have to turn some settings down (if you only passed minimum)

I intend to turn down some settings, I don't really like the graphically-intensive games...  But I did pass both with flying colours :)

Then you are going to hate MWLL.    ;)
