some are plastic models that were available back when the tabletop game was the game, the LAMs shadowhawk, griffin thunderbolt ,stinger and wasp were plastic kits, the others i made .

here is a pair of half made loki's to give an idea of scale

not quite as tall as a BT novel, about as tall as a cola can

some final detail before getting their skins

My mates ran lots of the plastic models, so i started building these to give me some tactical flexibility, they do take plenty of time to build, but it doesnt take long to get the hang of it, balsa wood is very easy to sculpt, and model shops sell all sorts of plastic strips angles and I beams , which make the detailing easy enough

you can always look out for older robotech toys as well, many of these are suitable for larger scale play, we would play in the even larger scale with the riffleman and warhammer toys that were available

Its worth scouring ebay for "robotech toys" too

heres an archer

warhammer and marauder

http://cgi.ebay.com/robotech-macross-lot-toys-/260794732658?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item3cb893d072

coat of paint and cammo scheme and these are great for large scale play

That marauder in the 2nd link is one i have

As you can see a dab of paint can turn a cheap toy into a nice playing peice

Have you seen this? The Page is called Brickcommander. It's all about building Mechs (and Star wars stuff, and Star Treck stuff,...) out of Lego. They are pretty professional and even use a design software, so everyone can rebuild their models.

Design-Software:
Masakari

Banshee

And some random pics

This, my friend, is a dangerous hobby. A real timekiller.

I can get made,  up to 12 inch tall figures on the 3d (plastic) printer, some things need to be built separately then glued but it's pretty easy to make a good 10-12" model.  Although costs are quite high so usually 5inch model would come out around $30 (ish depending on obviously the bulk and width).  I'll grab some pics of some of the stuff that has been printed if you want (brother owns the design studio that has the RPM :P).

Based on expressions of interest ive had over the years for mine, that could quite a lucrative venture.
