Shotguns aren't accurate worth shit. They're just "point the bead this direction" and hope you hit something at 20 yards.
Maybe if you're using a sawed off shotgun.  :P

Shotguns aren't rifled so when you fire the beads just spin and bounce around in the barrel. Trust me, they aren't accurate past 20 yards unless you're using some specialty ammo like slugs which are pretty accurate at far ranges. There's literally thousands of type of shotgun ammo though which makes them the most versatile weapons in the world plus a burgular gets scared shitless when they hear you pump it.

Anyway we're offtopic.  ;)

This is an interesting debate, and many will probably disagree with me, but I actually do not think the flight models should be all that different among ASF.  Leaving aside the Shiva-E issue/engagement type for a moment, basically:

1. First, understand we have a souped up VTOL model upon which all flight is based;
2. Second, every fight that tried to use a "fighter vs bomber" paradigm would just end up with either (a) a defenseless plane running/dying, or (b) first to get 6 o'clock wins (which is bad if you have a 24k asset easily downing 100k assets with better armor and weps); so...
3.  I really do think it should somewhat mirror a ground fight - or at least a flying tank fight - but realizing you cannot just "reverse" out of a turning fight like  light v heavy ground, so all air needs the capacity to maneuver effectively in fight;
4.  Fights and loadouts should encourage marksmanship and pilotage, so shots on target (better: shots on hit locs that actually do something materially degrading opps) and better set up/pilotage in the fight.  Many shots (or fewer very precise shots) required proportionately versus opposing asset class, but not 2 minutes' worth....  Leave room for "sniper" asf loadouts, as opposed to just spray and pray, that can degrade as well as kill opps.

I think something along the above lines would be interesting but still give credit for fielding a heavy asset - but allow that a well-piloted lighter asset can be used tactically and successfully (certainly more so than now).  Loadouts with varying mix of A2A / A2G effectiveness could also further distinguish asset choice.

Plus, I don't think this is an utterly radical shift or technical departure from what we have now.

Yay bullet points!

  • One. I am aware that crysis has no native support for "real" fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Two. Not true, while the Sulla could in theory get on the six of a hostile Shiva and deal damage with impunity it would still be lacking the firepower to down the Shiva in a reasonable time. While the Shiva on the other hand needs only one opportunity to instakill the Sulla
  • Three. Variety is the spice of life, as in we already have Mechs and Tanks why would I want a whole new class of asset that plays the same? Basically I am saying planes should be like planes not Mechs. Also I was really only advocating that the Shiva and all other assets have a sensible stall speed, and lift characteristics.
  • Four. That is exactly why I offered my idea. Its not perfect by any means, but hey its a beta. Its not like it won't get changed back if its a bad idea.

Overall I'm not really sure about your intention with this last post, I can't tell if your agreeing (even partially), or if you offered your own solution.

Please Clarify

Simply offering my own take on things / alternate models from lots and lots of flying.

I will however point out your 2nd response is incorrect.  We do currently have pretty much a "get six" model, and Sulla A & D will do the trick nicely, although D requires a lot more map.  To your point, Sulla Prime & E are mostly the wrong tool at that point in the game.

As for the rest, as I said, this has been debated before, and all those points were just my own opinion on air given its inherent limitations and the probability it will get much development bandwidth.

You seem ready for a fight, though ;)

Shotguns aren't accurate worth shit. They're just "point the bead this direction" and hope you hit something at 20 yards. Also, as long as the shells have the proper amount of black powder to cycle the bolt then it won't jam as often as a rifle.

I'm not saying that I want the LBX made to be like that, I'm just giving perspective because I own one irl. p.s. the recoils overrated. o.O

I disagree, I am a fapping surgeon with my Mossberg 500.  Granted, it's a pump action and not semi or full auto but it's still a shotgun and it's damned accurate.

I have a Maverick 88 smoothbore with rifle sights and 26" barrel which is basically a cheap Mossberg 500 knock-off. It puts in decent groupings at 20-40 yards when I use the standard choke, but when I throw in the slugs I beam the targets out 100-200 yards with ease.

I want to go turkey hunting with it, but its a 6 month wait for the hunting courses. u.u

Er... Not accurate? I love this preconception that just because shotguns aren't as long-ranged as a rifle that they're somehow inaccurate or ineffective.

I don't really have the time or energy to spend clearing up such misconceptions, except to say anyone caught uninvited on my property should be much more worried about my 12ga. than my .45; Mr. .45 will hurt, probably even kill you... Mr. 12ga. will take you apart one piece at a time, and do it from well over 100m all day long.

This is not reactionary evidence.  There have been complaints about the Shiva E ever since its release, and the complaints have only become more vocal and consistent the longer it remains unchanged.  The complaints have also been repeatedly voiced by some of the top ASF pilots in this mod, and are rarely from newer ASF pilots, or Shiva E only pilots.

So, just as a question, where do I fit in eh?

Lets say we took the Shiva E out. and put the CBT Shiva Prime in it's place. it has only ONE lbx20. It would still insta-frag sullas, and take Shivas to red body.

The Shiva E's loadout is not "broken" nor is it "op" it is an assault fighter. It has the pod space to support it EASILY. Yeah, it's faster than the beatstick, it can fly, but the beatstick doesn't essentially die to a single LBX20. The Beatstick has less pod space than the Shiva, but has -WAY THE HELL MORE- armor.

Seriously, get in a sulla prime, use your friends on the ground to spot the Shiva E. Roll up on it's ass passive (you have ECM) and lolrape it. I know that you at least can out turn it, as well as I can. Once I'm on a Shiva's ass it's over for that pilot, barring help from the ground or another Shiva E. You're better than this man, I've flown against you and your wingman.

It's the assault mech of the skies, you can't reasonably expect take out a MK2 beatstick, solo, with a light mech. With a sulla, at least you can make sure he never gets the chance to shoot at you if you do it right, and kill him, I'd say that's far better.

Better yet, get the new RAC/UAC shiva and kick it's ass from range. It's not difficult.

Not recorded in this video, but when I get a Sulla on my back, I can just laugh at him and fly back to the safety of the base, or just stall my plane and have him fly over me / ram into me and die + give me a kill.
