Dying everywhere but not in combat
« on: June 07, 2011, 04:46:57 PM »
I have been playing more agressively and have been dying the oddest ways which never seemed to be a problem before, I assume the possiblity of these deaths have always existed but haven't noticed them until late.

JJ into mech too fast or at wrong angle to enter cockpit, same happened several times entering VTOL and AS assests. Spawned in AS control tower, tried jumping out of the window as I have 100's of times before, splat, wtf?

Seen AS pop taking off before, but VTOL did the same last night lifting nearly verticle off the pad.

Does this seem pretty normal to others, just curious? The rash of these deaths happened in one night and had me raging, didn't help I started getting CTDs again after months. I need to go back to debug mode :(

Hmmn. I have had BA splat against both vehicles and mechs (not as common), but I can not say I have noticed an increase recently.
I very rarely pilot ASF or VTOLs so I can not comment on those I am afraid.

Had any irregular ping times or anything like that? That could probably make the engine regard the collision as more serious then it may have appeared to you (thus dealing more damage -> splat).

My BA has ocassionally died jumping into a mech or running into a vehicle.   It's no worse now than it was, in my experience.

I never experienced random BA death till 0.5.0,

The most common place that it happens is when JJing to get to your mech, and I think it's when you hit around the hips.

You normally get a kill report saying you were killed by puma_legs (or similar)

If you take this seriously, you're some kind of mouth-breathing fappwit that shouldn't have survived infancy.

Stop ramming your head into that mechs crotch. Just stop it! Stop it I say!

Maybe this is realted somehow . .
Because sometimes, entering a vehicle will get me damaged and stop me from transferring funds until the timer has run out . .
So let us say i die.
I respawn. I can give away money, but i don't do it because i need a vehicle and ammo for that vehicle.
Then i buy the vehicle, race down to the hangar, do that little "urgent business" dance while waiting for the vehicle to be built.
Then i jump down onto or behind the vehicle and enter the vehicle. I then get red arrows that indicate damage from several directions.
And i can not give away money anymore, until the timer has run out. Again.
'any kind of discussion of randomness ALWAYS WILL EQUATE to being able to critically hit a mech's reactor by firing a micro beam laser while facing 80 degrees to the side, shooting the ground, which would cause a random explosion which would randomly crit his entire team's reactors which would randomly cause the server itself to explode which would randomly generate a strange quark which would randomly hit the earth and randomly randomness randomfapp the shit fapp random!'

My worst case was ramming a Sulla with BA resulting in -500 score (I had about 400 before). THAT really sucked...

You normally get a kill report saying you were killed by puma_legs (or similar)
well, that's been around since 0.1.0...

most of those "unexplainable" BA-deaths is simply collisiondamage, if you run/JJ into a mech or vehicle you are going to recieve collisiondamage, as well as the vehicle you're running into.
I don't know why mechlegs have a habit of killing you more often than torsos or vehiclebodys, but as Merf already said, just don't JJ/run into them!
also in order to get in, don't try to smash yourself into the centertorso using JJs as if you wanted to enter the mech directly through it's frontal armor plating!
One simply shouldn't attempt that! :P
hop on your mech so you land on top of it... never been gibbed by that.

Oh btw, I gonna fix the VTOL-Pad, so you can't get out through the window, which is actually not an appropriate way to enter/leave a building anyways... :P
If at first you don't succeed try again, and if you don't try again, you'll be hit in the face with a shovel!

All of it makes sense, I just need to chill the hell out. I get impatient in games especially when flying since there is a lot of back and forth repairing and rearming.

Twice now, once in .5.0 and .4, I killed myself on my mechs legs and gave myself a permanent score of -90,000. It simply said I had killed myself - nothing about legs, but I've had that one too.

I would have screenshot that. -90,000 is worthy.

When approaching a VTOL or ASF, your BA will speed up ~5m from the actual asset, usually resulting in a player decapitating themselves against the wings.  To avoid this, stop running up to the vehicle, and instead get close, and tap your forward key until you get the enter icon.
