6850,or 5850 user feedback<looking to get 6850>
« on: June 12, 2011, 11:47:54 AM »
Hey guys, If you have one of these, let me know how you like it. I am seriously looking at the 6850 for a variety of reasons so please dont respond and tell me how awesome the 460 is etc or some other card. Am only interested in how these cards perform in mwll. Specs and settings you run the game at would be helpful also .
Seriously, if anyone mentions nvidia, may your psu catch fire.
 ;)

running HD5850 clocked @875Mhz Core/1200MHz Ram
Fed by Q9550@3,83 Ghz.

NOT running well.
5850 and Q9550 not performing well as combo, CPU is showing lack of throughput, GPU showing signs of borderline coreload (close to 99% when playing Arma2 or MWLL).
max fps 60 <---when looking somewhere empty
min fps 2 <---- heavy battles + assets spawnings mixed in

Since a 6850 is nothing more than a 5850 a bit modernized  im not sure going for it.
You might wanna get more punch per euro to feed your gaming frenzies.

Good day.

The 5850 is a much more powerful card than the 6850.

The numbering was changed for the 6000 series.

eg, the 5870 competes with the 6970 not the 6870.

lol no Bin Fish, cane mala, non biscoctus :P

The 5850 isn't that much better than the 6850, there is barley any difference. The 5850 is the better card performance wise though, but we are talking a few fps.

How ever you should just buy a GTX 460 and Oc it. And yes I am waiting for my PSU to explode.....Still waiting :D

I have one rig with 460 and another with 6850. Graphicswise, they perform about the same, although the rig with the 6850 is being held back more by the CPU, so I run the mod with higher settings to shift more of the burden to the GPU. It runs 1920x1080 on high settings with acceptable frame rates.

The problem is overclocking. 6850 just doesn't clock well. The 460 clocks great. For the same ~$150, you can buy a 6850, or a 460 clocked at 850mhz. A bit faster than even the 6870 at those clocks. The other option is a stock clocked GTX 460 1GB at $130 after rebate. Clock it up yourself and you're all set. I've never heard of a 460 that won't hit at least 825mhz, and most go much higher.

If you still don't care and want an AMD product, at $150, the 6850 is a nice card and will pair well with your older quad.

Er, you run MWLL better than my GTX580.... on all ultra high? Unless your running low res I guess.

Even in that link they only managed to get average of 40fps at 1900x1200 in warhead.

If your running at 1200x1000 then I take back my comment.

He's probably just looking at the hangar wall. 6850 does not get those kind of frames on very high during combat.

its a question of how smoothly the game runs. My 4830 gets good fps at 1680x1050 on med, high settings. just not all the time. There are many times I average around 50 fps in a regular game.
tnks for replies, keep em coming.

Can most 460 cards clock high enough to match the 6870? If so that's what I'll get.  Their prices are incredible right now.

Easily, of course you can overclock the 6870, but I don't think it will be a match for the 460 still. But we aren't talking alot of difference fps wise either way. Make sure it's the 1gb 460.
