Is less freedom to play as you like the sign of a better game?

Personally, I don't think so, especially since Crysis wasn't even remotely comparable to sandbox games, you still had clear paths that you could follow to reach your (fixed) objective the fastest way (not necessarily the best, easiest or most interesting, but fastest) and options were very limited once the aliens became the main enemies.
Crysis 2 is just more of a standard corridor shooter and we definitely have enough of those by now

Still, what annoyed me most about C2 was the unexplained, massive technology shift for the aliens.
Why would they use bipedal exoskeletons with glaring weak spots when they have fully armored exoskeletons that can fly?
Especially when fighting in a city, where a small, highly maneuverable, flying unit has tons of advantages.
Why the bubonic alien plague instead of their freezing weapons?
What happened to the energy sucking dome above that island?
But oh, we're told that the Nanosuit tech is derived from alien bits found at Tunguska.
