Possible Mech Model
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:29:46 PM »
Hey everyone. I really want to get into some serious 3ds max business. As of now I have only modeled simple objects, but I think its time I sit down and try to create something of greater magnitude. Also, at the same time, I would like to contribute to MWLL ;D. So with that in mind, I plan on making something for the game. Personally I would like to make a mech but I will let other community members (pros included) make suggestions, as I don't want to model something that already exists and not be able to contribute.

I just plan on modeling and then posting it here and if it looks acceptable, ill donate it to the mod, if not, it would be good practice. So what model would people like to (possibly) see in MWLL?

How about the IMP or the famous Urban Mech?

How about winning the hearts of hardworking guys like Wilson or Sesambrot and focus on environmental assets? A whole set for a map like a countryside set with farm buildings, tractors and stuff or a (sub)urban set (which would make you the hero for the community)?
Don't get me wrong, but the mechmodel itself is just the minor part of an asset on its way into the game. And to model on the standards of the mod is quite.... hard. Except your are a 2nd Ghogiel (I still hope his Thor will kick out the actual fail designed model).

But look at all the maps: recylced buildings on all of them. Everybody is keen on making mechs. Or tanks.

And I assume you will go for a mech/tank anyway. But it was worth a try to point you towards something really relevant.

:) Anyway, good luck and I hope you stay motivated until you finished you project. Whatever it will be.

Haha I was expecting someone to point this out. I know it really is the small stuff that makes something great. If no one else is will to put forth the time to do such modeling, I will certainly do so for the greater good. However it looks like Bill has something up his sleeve...

Since I am still a MWLL virgin ( waiting and waiting for crysis in mail), can someone give me some specifics on what 3d models would be a great addition to the game, perhaps map specific objects? Besides the previous mentioned farm stuff.

Leopard class dropships would be nice

You have to understand the code of duty and honor that rules those who pilot these engines of destruction. Placing such an awesome weapon in the hands of an individual implies a similar gesture of trust

Being an old school fan, im partial to the original.

It occured to me that this asset could also be used as a spawn/ammo reload point in the game

Yes I was trying to wonder what its uses would be and that was the only thing I could think of. So having this assest could open up possibilities for certain map scenarios perhaps???

Yeah a bit like terrain control capture the dropship and you capture the spawn point/repair functions/ammo reloads

Im trying to find the original drawing that you get in the back of the novels, if all else fails i can scan one of those

Edit: the two pics already posted are just as good as the one in the back of the novels.
Except the first one is missing the top mounted turret. the large rectangular shapes on the side are roller doors leading to the mech bay area of the ship

This one looks good. What do you think? I normally do cadd so the top and side views fit the bill for me.  Sorry for the excessively large image
