That's why i DON'T pilot scats, its great at everything, doesn't matter what phase of the game it's in.  It's always a threat.

The piles of excess that is the Shadow Cat is a glory to pilot, but once you compare it to all the other mechs, and you realize how magic it is, you just can't help but feel dirty.
Thanks for the view.

As a beta tester of a mod in progress, wouldn't you rather abuse the crap out of any asset that is overpowered so that it is obvious to even the most casual observer that the asset in question needs rebalancing?  How can the devs truly determine the current state of balance in the game when half the players are purposefully using sub-standard assets because they've decided to take balance into their own hands?

A perfect example is legging.  Is it overpowered?  I think so, but it's hard to tell because nobody ever does it.  If you think it is overpowered, wouldn't it be better to prove that point and then get it balanced?  That way you aren't screwed if your enemy decides that he doesn't agree with your legging honor code.

One of the ways that games evolve is by people abusing "overpowered" tactics, and then players find ways to counter those strategies.  As people learn the game, strategies that were once thought overpowered and even unbeatable at the start of the game's evolution are laughably easy to counter years down the road, and new strategies will have evolved.  By refusing to use what you consider the best assets, you are stunting the growth of the game, no?

Except I got bored with abusing the Owens C and Shadowcats a hell of a long time ago. I get far more satisfaction doing something unexpected. The other day I wen't on a kill rampage with the Vulture Prime. No one expected that.  :D

The problem with legging as an example is a certain very popular server's admins start banning people when you leg them. It poisons the whole community into not legging.

I like using the under-played assets not because I like handicapping myself, but instead to find tactics that no one else has figured out yet. With just a few exceptions (*cough* Uziel *cough* cougar), every variant can be used well and effectively.   There are just some that are easier to use than others.

I do agree that the best thing a community can do to show an asset is overpowered is by abusing it. It doesn't take conscious effort to make that happen. People will always gravitate to the best thing.  As long as the Scat is the size of a raven, its going to be popular (and OP) for that reason alone.

There's a point to testing a over powered mechanic BUT on the flip side it would drive off many in the community if they got trolled/griefed all the time.  On the scat specifically, i'm hoping that it's only going to stay in it's superior role until another clan medium gets added.  Of course if it gets scaled back at all, lots of people will whine about nerfs.

As a beta tester and particularly an alpha tester, balance just isn't a priority atm from the devs point of view from what I've seen. Brokenass game-crashing wtf stuff is.
If they don't want to listen to my opinion, I'm not going to go out of my way and eat into my own fun to beat it into them by trolling everyone.
When they're ready to focus on balance then it is time to troll them  ;), but I'm not going to beat my head against a brick wall.

Right now I'm focusing on game breaking stuff (which may not follow the devs definition) like the Owens C dominance early game and Shiva E unfun air-to-air combat situation.
These are the things I'm insistent on when asked my opinion because they really do cripple your average MWLL round.

I use the Scat, the LBX one specifically....but prior to that I rank too it using the Uller Prime, so I don't feel bad....plus IT'S THE ONLY CLAN MEDIUM like Square said....

Hopefully that'll change soon then you'll never see me piloting them again

Sometimes I imagine myself piloting a Marauder in MWLL, then tears of joy roll down my cheeks briefly before I open my eyes, look at my screen, and let out a long sorrowful sigh.

Right now it's listed as a planned mech in the wiki. Patience is a virtue, in the long run it won't be that much longer until those tears come back to stay.

For both you and the tears of your crushed opponents.

Coming back to the Scat D,

Well if you guys like it then awesome :D, I never said it was crap, I just remember it running quite hot.

I almost exclusively used it towards the later days of 0.4 and I tended to always blow my heatsinks at some point.
I ran around with my left side and right side lasers grouped up. It let me shoot around corners and generally manage heat pretty well. I tended to still alpha a bit during a brawl, especially
I did kill and maim a lot of mechs in that thing though and it was fun (and hard to get... my god look at the price).

I think the reason I tend to remember a firey death in it is because I was engaging for so long I ran out of coolant. You're right you can just tap coolant to keep the temperatures in check, but being a sniping lasermech my trips back to the hanger were few and far between. I think most of the time, I'd get caught without coolant when I needed to go nuts with my lasers.

It also comes back to your playing style. If you play it safe you can let the mech cool naturally between shots. I used to always close range a bit with opponents since I found at max ranges my lasers wouldn't register consistently (yes I can fail with lasers...)

I may need to go back to using it again... when I can afford it.
