i7920 4.3ghz compaired to 2500k 4.8ghz ;)
« on: July 13, 2011, 12:27:59 PM »
Might try and get it to 4.9ghz and get lower volts, but for now its 12h prime95 stable, and that will do for benchmarking.

Since my SSD got corrupted by me unplugging the sata cable and plugging it into new motherboard (no idea, just unlucky) I have to install all my games again. So please give me time to download everything ;)

i7 920 fps was before my CPU died unless otherwise stated.

The rigs

i7 920 4.3ghz
12gb DDR3 Triple channel 1646mhz
2x GTX 580 3gb SLI
120gb Agility 1 SSD
HX 1000W Corsair
Windows 7 x64

Sandy 2500k 4.8ghz
8gb DDR3 Dual Channel 1600mhz
2x GTX 580 3gb SLI
120gb Agility 1 SSD
HX 1000W Corsair
Windows 7 x64

For all testing performances I had Nvidia Panel set to maximum Quality, if you got two GTX580 why the hell not ;) Also means GC will be pushing as hard as they can making the CPU more important.

The same CFG that was used for Crysis and MWLL, also the hanger was ignored from all fps data since it would screw results:

yeah 0fps cause sandy is that awsome ;) The last line is at the bottom so I know everyone read it all haha.

DOW2 just finished downloading, then goto install Crysis wars and download MWLl, thank God I have unlimited download limit, or id be screweded...this is the 2nd week I've downloaded like 70gb in 2 days sigh.

Looking forward to seeing how much of an increase you get.

What was your GPU usage on average playing MWLL before?

Since I cannot get my cards to work with surround, I have only managed to get the values for DOW2 running at 1920x1200. I've spent the rest of the time trying to fix my problem.

GPU usuage went from 50% on both cards upto around 70-80%. But it generally sat around 50-60% I haven't had a chance to look with sandy as of yet.

Decided I'm going to install Just cause 2 and run that benchmark, then I'll know if it's just poor support for DOW2.

Well both cards are performing badly when solo, and absoultly terrible in SLI and surround. The stuttering is crazy, doesn't matter if alone or SLI. So going to be RMA them back hopefully, goto phone them tommorow. This will of course delay me getting results sigh. But broken cards are broken cards. Palit....you suck.

Sucks to hear that dude

Hope they sort it for you soon.

ps...Not nitpicking but you have the i7 920 down twice for the MWLL results.

Ah thanks for telling me lol. No problem. I'm going to have to remove the DOW2 results from the sandy part, since i can get almost the same FPS with just one card. And for the moment, I cannot tell if that is correct or not.

At the moment both cards don't work properly solo or together, and one card seems to go in PCI-E 1.1 8x. 8x part is correct but v1.1? Damn thats slow lol. Ah well.

For all testing performances I had Nvidia Panel set to maximum Quality, if you got two GTX580 why the hell not ;) Also means GC will be pushing as hard as they can making the CPU more important.

You got that backwards, making the video cards work harder on rendering means the CPU has more breathing room :)

The sooner the vidya cards hit 100% use, the sooner the CPU can say 'right, job well done, now I can do more important things.'

Ah but the more you want the GC to do, the more the CPU has to tell the GC what to do ;)

You are right though, since if you up the res and graphic settings the CPU won't be the bottleneck anymore. But since two GTX 580 at those settings used to idle at 1900x1200 with my old CPU, I thought it be best to stick it on for sandy too :D

Well obviously in games like Crysis they wouldn't idle ;)

Problem solved, the PSU had blown, and was trying to take my system down with it. While games are not performing better per say with working PSU, at least artifacts, crashing and computer powering down has now stopped :D And i don't lose picture!

I will update everything asap, but first I want to enjoy playing on my PC which I haven't done in two very very long weeks ;)

Right, triplescreen does not work. It's completly and utterly broken and I have had enough of this shit to be quite honest. So I'm just going to sell one monitor and stay with two monitors since nvidia can't program triplescreen drivers to save their life. Literally I move the option from SLi to surround, and pressing that SINGLE button breaks my PC completly. Games stop running, PC hard crashes, monitors stop showing picture while in games.

It was good while it worked, at least I had triplescreen working for a day again.

If anyone has any magic wand to fix triplscreen with nvidia please tell me.

I stumbled across why my triplescreen (And dual screen intrestingly) doesn't work!

And I thought I would share the info, so if any other naive person like myself who thought Nvidia wasn't completly retarded would know what not to do.

Basically all the sockets on the graphic card, and most importantly, on the MONITORS, must be exactly the same as each other.

So you can use 3 DVI cables from GC to monitor, or 3 DVI->HDMI cables from GC to monitor, but you cannot do 2DVI to monitor and one DVI->HDMI to monitor. If you do the latter your entire PC just breaks, and nothing seems to work. Literally all games within 5min 100% guarnteed to crash. (At least for me!)

The intresting part is, even in dual screen setup, and running SLI, I get the exact same problem, but if I use DVI for both GC and monitor, it's fine!

So now my monitor with a broken DVI port (Which is why I was using HDMI on it in the first place) is going to be sent back to get replaced/repair, and maybe just maybe I'll be able to go back to triplescreen gaming sometime this century!

Oh and this is ONLY for nvidia, ATI aren't quite as silly as this.

Doh!

I thought you knew this. It is a quirk of how SLI works, Scan Line Interface. The screen must be rendered by the same two native graphics adapters.
