Advice for a new Khan
« on: July 15, 2011, 04:56:15 AM »
As some of you may have or didnt notice, there is a new clan in town. Its mine, and i am pretty much the noob of noobz as far as a clan goes. What suggestions do people have for the running of, organizing of, and participating in a clan.

on second thought this sounds like the noobiest post ive ever done.

to sum up my history of clans, ive participated in one, in Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I was invited by a member, was aparently never confirmed, was too noob (by their definition) to continue as part of the clan and was booted. YAY. I started sea fox to have fun with like minded people. no more advertising lol.

Change the name to Clan Care Bear, pwn n00bs

They'll be uber (I think that means ¨really¨ or something like that) embarrassed and cry to their mommas cuz they got beat by care bears

Srsly, as far as setting up games goes, just send out PMs or chill on outreach TS to see if anyone's up for a game
The rest is kinda up to you

Sounds like a good start. The rest probably depends on what you and your members want - regular training, ranks & trials of position, fun wars, league play, ... ?

A method of private communication is a must, be it icq/msn or your own forum/website. If you've no funds to support your own website until your membership grows you may be able to beg a board from one of the other clans in the interim?

Own TS3/website.

Hold a few trials of position etc.

But mainly get yourself involved in community events, hell throw the gauntlet down to a few other clans for a rough and ready rumble time.

Welcome aboard btw.

Always good to have more clan guys.

My best advice is to think about what YOU want from the clan. Why do you want to gather people to play the game with primarily? What will be your groups main focus?

Once you have these in mind, its about staying around abd being involved. Over time people will get to know you, and the unaffiliateds might want to jump onboard.

If you want players, keep an eye out for people in the new players section lower down the boards, and send a polite pm their way. Remember, you only need a core gorup of 5 actives to be able to participate in star v star. Thats basically how CJW grew. It was a core group of about 5 of us that just liked to game in general, and loved battletech, and we just grew over time to have the members we do now.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

Allright, assuming i get a star of fellow warriors, how do i challenge some other clan to a trial or two? PM's, TS3?

and don't trials of refusal require a disagreement on a vote result, quiaff?

and thanks everybody for the advice, hopefully i will get CSF onto the mwll teamspeak3 community server soon.

Yeah but we don't have a functioning Clan Council yet as far as I am aware. So I use trial of refusal in place of a trial of grievance.

Otherwise it sounds a bit too personal. I just do as my Khan tells me too.  :o

As a Khan you should watch wrath of Khan.

Then become Khan.

That, or posting over in matchmaker. Until you have enough members for full drops participating in the open merc nights should give you a taste.

There are plenty of free services you can leverage.

Community TS3: contact [WiE] Phelan Kell to get setup.  Designated unit leaders have the ability to create channel rooms, set password protection, and kick/ban unwanted users from their channel

Forum hosting:  Several of our clans/units use www.enjin.com for their hosting needs.  The 12th uses http://www.freeforums.org/  Both are have free versions.

Once you have that stuff setup, like the other guys said, jump in with both feet!  Challenge other units, most of the times the community can find a server to do the hosting if they don't have control of one.  I know when the 12th first started I only challenged the larger units that could host are matches so it wouldn't be an issue.

Beyond that, I'd say the biggest challenge is maintaining interest and momentum.

---edit in---
I also wanted to add that having a "mentor" unit really helps when starting out.  The Dragoons really helped us a lot when we first started.  Showed us the ins and outs of hosting matching, how to plan for "league style" drops, and even invited us to one of their big events :D
Want to give organized battles a spin?
Not sure about your skills but want to test them out?
Looking for a casual unit?
12th Vegan Rangers are recruiting!  Click here to check out our new boards!
