how about a map based on the classic battle tech maps with the hexes on the board..

also have the odd soda bottles with dice and stat sheets placed out side the map?
I was a mechwarrior like you once; until i took a arrow to my mech's knee ...

You mean a map that looks like a "wargame tabletop" sorta ? Not a bad idea, I think that would definately fall under the "something different" category of maps lol.. :)

Getting the different Height Levels right and making woods workable would be a bitch though . .

Exactly what I was thinking. A couple of us were actually talking about this a week or so ago, except tba battlefield map on a table would only be a part of a whole room, like the old rat maps. You would need a bunch of new map resources and textures...

I had an idea like that a pretty long while back as well.
would be awesome to have a custom terraintex with hexes on it! ^^
Also, how about a "huge" Longinus and Elemental BA on either side of the map as "Players"? ;D

The Charger . . Typical Lyran thinking . .  a frigging 80t scout mech with 6 small beam lasers . .
Also, try out the Berserker with TSM. 40 Points of Damage from a Kick or from the Hatchet. Do the Kick.
You can kick off legs of other pristine Assault Mechs, even 100t Mechs sometimes . .
And if you play with the optional rule that EACH 20 points of damage add a +1 on the TN to keep standing, it gets even worse.
