News of banking/ranking changes?

Rant

I am very close to abandoning this mod because of the gradual shift in game dynamics over the last few patches.
Where earning a heavier mech was based on some skill or just diligence players were able to rank up to heavies and assaults in past patches, today the same is true it just takes more skill and the dedication to see a game through.
As of late however I see the shift from earning a heavy or assault from skill or even a little help from friends to the point where the field is littered with heavy assets bought with very generous donations from players.
I have this sinking feeling that this game is no longer who is the more skilled player/team but the better banking player/team.
I hate to see all the hard work the devs have done come down to a this phrase, "Cash please?"
I know of many who await purported banking/ranking changes.

Is there anyway devs, you can let us know that these changes are occurring and if they are coming soon?

I hate to bring this topic up but almost every game I participate in I see the evidence of hearty donations that completely remove the skill needed to acquire such heavy assets and I die a little every time inside cause I play this mod because of the requisite skill needed in playing.

Please let the community know.
If you can't, well I guess all I can do is check in next patch and see how the mod is doing.

I feel the same way.  I'm taking a break from TSA/TC for this very reason.  I'd love to play a good game of SA again and troll people with a Harasser D for the entire match, but SA servers are never populated.  :'(

They have stated many times that a banking change is coming.

Now there is an immediate fix available already and has been in since 0.4.0. The servers have an option to disable Cbill sharing. What you need to do is go to the Server threads and make a case there as well as their respective website (most of them display this info ingame).

Right now its a problem that can be fixed by Server Admins. Devs of the Mod are working on a fix that will override the server admins reluctance to use the tool given to them. So for right now your beef is with the servers, not Mods (they are doing their jobs).

I have never really thought of the pub TSA environment as the way I wanted to play MWLL. It is getting better from my POV. The league mode was an example.

Actually there are less than 10% of forum members who actually dislike money transfers at all.
Over 80% engage in transferrring cash. And more than 50% are willing to transfer more than 20-40k.

But I also agree that a change in the current banking system might help to avoid those 2-minute-into-the-game-assault-mechs.

I am sorry but it doesn't seem bad enough to quit the mod, but I did for awhile a bit ago.  ???

Now I feel bad for giving my extra c-bills to newer players that just might be itching to play in a 'mech that they idolize.  I know if they want something bigger they could just hop on Blazing Aces for some mindless chum.

Sheeit, now I am about to rant about something I think is not as big a deal as some think.  I actually think there may be new players that are afraid to ask for even 5 or 10k to get a slightly better 'mech because of all the hate that is thrown on this issue.  Not that I like banking per se, as in someone playing that role to keep ppl in heavies and assaults, but you have to admit this game is quite challenging when you are the new guy, and don't even know which 'mechs are good for ranking and making some dough.

I see banking as no worse than the guys that never veer from their chosen variant ladder, and always mopping the floor with everyone and anyone.
Certain 'mechs being spammed and certain people always spamming them hurts this mod and community just as bad as some mediocre dudes in their bank bought 'mechs.

Hmm, when I was new, I had a ton of fun being that prick in the Raven that NARCs you all day, and the few times I got into a Bushy or SCat were enough to keep me interested by far

If you think all new dudes want to quit this game if they don't get a heavy or Assault once very 2 games or something, then either you're underestimating the newbs, or I'm wrong to assume that they will act like mature players and not some ADD CoD kid banking for an attack helo :-X

Steelbarrage, no offense, but it seems that everytime I read something from you, in- or off-game, you seem hellbent on changing the rules to your idea of what the game should be, then being pissed, if people don't play by your rules.

Everyone has their own idea of what's cool and what's not. The trick is to accept and adapt to it, as long as it's not totally ruining the fun for everyone (everyone being more than a vocal minority).

Now I agree that banking can bring one team to totally stomp the other guys, but seriously, how often does a team practice banking in a really effective way? Lately I've seen banks growing to >500k without anyone ever using the money. So that leaves one player basically out of the game, because he mustn't die and very few people taking advantage of it. Balance restored...

Now concerning just transferring cbills from one player to another, and helping late starters, I don't see a reason why this is being considered as 'bad' at all. Helping other players is a form of team play, makes people grateful to each other and help the other guys out next time. It's basically a way of team building, which I guess we can all agree, is something to be encouraged in a team based game running largely pub games.

So in short: nobody has to like everything in the game (god knows I don't), but please, pleeease people, cease the constant whining. It's making my ears bleed.

I know of the server side disable, but I also know why it is so reluctantly enforced.
That 5k for ammo or repair is used all the time.
Without that many people miss out on that extra ton of ammo.
I'm not asking for an immediate fix, but their is no reason not to hear that work is being done on the system as on many other threads the devs reassured many that changes were in the works.

@ Dhalrin, .2 and .3 were times where banking/transfers made little difference to this game.
IIRC the devs changed the previous system the current because they wanted more use of mid game assets rather than heavies and assaults for 50 min as was common previously.
As of now that work is nearly moot when so much cash is flying around.

This thread is not about who wins or loses by what means, but how this mod played.
If all you have to do is ask for cash ot get in an assault its like turning the godmode cheat on.
Where is the skill in asking for cash.
I'm not trying to change this mod to what I want, but what it used to be, a game based on skill of the team.

I'm with Steel on this one guys.

The team that banks heavily, will win, hands down, nearly every time.  It takes a special breed of pub players to orchestrate the required teamwork to combat a heavily banking team.

A week or two ago, on Sandblasted, a player asked for "60k please?" and somebody gave it to them.  Note this wasn't to get a late joiner into a better asset near the end of the game.  This was a late joiner who joined the game 5min in, when the heaviest thing on the field at the time was a Bushwacker.

I personally would like to see a cap for donations, at all ranks.  Say, 15k max.  This covers the costs of any repairs and ammo for players that need it, and bring the Cbill sharing system closer to what it was intended to be.

Disabling Cbill sharing fixes the banking issue, but also disables the intended purpose of the Cbill sharing, which is to help cover the 1-5k costs of getting into an asset just out of your reach, or covering the cost of ammo and repairs.

I've sat on 250k in a Sulla once, and not as a banker.  I would generously cover my team's costs for ammo and repairs, but ignored all the other requests for 20k or higher.

There is a few things that would make this mod alot more fun to play in a public setting, as least for me:

1. Sharing Turned Off.
2. Turrets Turned Off.
3. Players capped at 24.
4. Bitching about Legging Ceased.
5. Bitching about non-Mechs Ceased.
6. Switching teams reset rank to CDT/PVT and cbills to 0 (go get killed on foot to get that 49000 back, yeah it sucks, but prevents abuse).

Half of those issues the Server Admins can fix.
Third of those issues could be fixed by the community itself (just stop bitching so much).
And only one issue is one only a dev could fix (though I'm sure a fix similar to that is coming down the pipeline).
