Avatar Variant fun
« on: July 23, 2011, 11:37:40 PM »
Normally I wouldn't do this, but as this is my favorite mech evar and I'm really bored, I thought about creating some variants for it

Looking at sarna, it has about 34 tons of pod space. Most MWLL mechs seem to have about as many weapons as their CBT counterparts but with a few small buffs, so let's move that up to 36 tons (ignoring MWLL weight changes as they seem to equal out with mechs like the MC prime getting one more MBL despite them weighing twice as much)

Now as MWLL works on a pod system, let's set that up as well. The sarna pic and the variants posted seem to point to this setup:
1 Assault-Heavy = Right arm
1 Heavy- Medium = Left arm
1 Med = Left arm
2 Meds = Torso
2 Heavy-Medium = Side torsos
2 Light =  Torso

(The XXXX-XXXX pods represent where two pods are interchangeable)

Now for the Variants:
_________________________________________________________________________
Prime
LBX10 = Right arm
1 medium pulse laser = Left arm
1 medium pulse laser = Left arm
2 medium beam lasers = Torso
2 LRM10 = Side torsos
2 MG =  Torso
BAP
C3

As the prime's two artemis are removed, and 2 tons are added free (like for the madcat) the prime mounts BAP and C3 to be a late game scout with some decent punch to either harass from range or scare off any lights who come across it
_________________________________________________________________________
Variant A (Smashy)
1 AC20 = Right arm
1 PPC = Left arm
1 nothing = Left arm
2 nothing = Torso
2 PPCs = Side torsos
2 nothing =  Torso
MASC

Variant A comes equipped with an AC20 for close ranged brawling, and an array of 3 PPCs for mid range fighting and to add some more punch once the mech gets in close. The MASC boosts the mech's top speed from 65 to 72kph, allowing for a faster engagement and escape time at the cost of using up heat for the PPCs
(was thinking of changing the AC20 for a gauss rifle and dropping the MASC for a free ton of ammo and maybe BAP to turn it into more of a sniper)
_________________________________________________________________________
Variant B (Sprinkles)
1 MRM40 = Right arm
1 MRM20 = Left arm
1 NARC = Left arm
1 nothing = Torso
2 MRM20 = Side torsos
2 nothing =  Torso

Honestly? I hope you brought AECM :-X A great partner to the MRMapult, which travels at the same speed and has more ammunition for better staying power. The MRMapult can also hide behind hills and JJ up to engage a target NARCed by the Avatar for a devastating 1-2 punch. The Avatar also has a great ability to chainfire the MRMs, making it a great shock tool against BA and NARCed enemies
_________________________________________________________________________
Variant C (Smashy 2.0)
1 AC20 = RA
1 PPC = LA
1 MPL = LA
2 MPL = CT
1 SRM6 = RT
1 SRM6 = LT
GECM
MASC

If I do change the first one into a sniper, this would be that variant that would take it's place. The 3 MPL and 2 SRM6 make perfect BA killers, and allow you to place pinpoint damage while shaking your enemy's scren and tearing them apart with the AC20. GECM and MASC can't hurt
A great heavy killer that can also preform anti BA duty
_________________________________________________________________________
Variant D (lamesausce)
1 LRM20 = Right arm
1 LRM15 = Left arm
1 Medium beam laser = Left arm
2 Medium beam lasers = Torso
2 LRM15 = Side torsos
2 nothing =  Torso
BAP

This variant is lamesausce, but as there is a canon LRM variant, I thought I'd make one too. Not that I'd use it or anything. Also, how the hell is it not overweight?
_________________________________________________________________________

Anyway, why don't you guy make some of your own MWLLified variants, or make up your own pod rules that you think have a better chance of being used instead and use those

Hell, you can just say how much my variants suck and leave it at that :-X

How can you leave out the two hard mounted medium beam lasers?

half of the sarna variants did (mainly the later ones) so I assumed they were only hard wired on the older versions :-\

AV1-OI - The Avatar I uses two torso mounted Thunderbolt 15 missile launchers for long range striking power. These missile launchers carry two tons of ammunition each, and are backed up by an ER Medium Laser in each arm. This version also carries sixteen double heat sinks.

I'd like to see this variant in MWLL.

As for the prime variant, I'm curious to see how that will be modified once it eventually gets added.  Given the lackluster performance of class 10 ACs, I wonder if the Avatar will get the Thor prime treatment and get a bigger gun.

I don't think MWLL cares that much about hard-mounted weapons. The Puma is supposed to have a hard-mounted flamethrower, but here only the Prime and A have any.

Thunderbolts on a ground asset would be...interesting. Technically there's no reason they shouldn't exist, but I'm not sure if the MWLL interpretations are conductive to it.

Considering Tbolts have only boolet per ton, and have godawful tracking, I'd say that a Tbolt mech would be exceptionally useless unless you're using a NARC or fighting idiots.

Variant D would be cool if it had a Dual SRM-6 instead of the arm mounted LRM-20, with a pair of flamers in the center torso.

As for the Smashy one . .
So you basically want it to be a lighter, faster, better armed Awesome?

I think Tbolts would be useful on maps like death valley and sandblasted.  On DV, if you're defending a base with Tbolts, you could blast the enemy mechs right as they come in the gate or from afar as they approach, and use them against missile/huit campers on sandblasted.

I'd just really like to see them used on more than 1 asset in the entire game.  If they worked similar to Arrows in MW4 when equipped on ground assets, I think they'd be very useful.  I've never understood why they only had 1 shot per ton in MWLL.

I'm not letting a stolen renamed clan piece of crap have more MRMability than the MRMapult.

i laughed when i saw that, too, that's a pretty retarded number of missiles, one decent close-range alpha strike from that could kill anything, which is the opposite of fun

Plus, it's a goddamn HEAVY class as well. That thing would probably cost less than 100K.
