The big freeze on my system
« on: July 26, 2011, 01:31:13 AM »
Right. The issues is a complete hang of Crysis wars, full stop. It eventually (after some haggling with the CTRLALTDEL) go to desktop where windows says the program has crashed. It seems to happen after i die in any mech and start typing before the respawn counter or anything has appeared. I am not certain but this seems the most likely symptom.
I tried with debug mode enabled, it eventually crashed while deathtyping, but nothing came up/maybe i just do not know how to use it.
i also cleared shaders and enabled factory overclock (its an Asus Republic of Gamers laptop)
Windows 7 64bits, Nvidia graphics, 4gb ram (i think). more spec's if you want them.

It also seems to momentarilly hang sometimes, IE everything seems to pause, then shoots to the present maybe a half second later. may/may not be related.

Try lowering your graphics down a whole level across the board.

Give full laptop specs pretty please?

Make sure dx and nvidia drivers are up to date.

Try playing cryis wars for a few hours and see if you get any problems so we know its its a mwll only problem.

Have you actually checked the over clock with a stress test? Doesn't matter how the over clock is done you must must use a stress test application to make sure its stable. Because the kind of delays your having does point to the cpu.

Since its a laptop your going to have to check temps, laptops overheat soooo easily, if you have a monitor in the house just plug it into the laptop stick all the temp, gpu and cpu monitoring stuff on it while running the game on the main laptop display and check to see what's happening.

If lots of people are having the same issue then it might be MWLL not the PC.

Similar issues here, especially the 'freeze' and lockup.  My lockup and eventual CTL-ALT-DEL occurs under heavy graphic, CPU and sound load such as massive explosive death (damn Sullas) and then the game trying to get me back to spawn menu.  This made me suspect memory so last night I grabbed another 2 GB that I had sitting around.  It was late by the time I had it plugged in but I didn't experience any freeze/hiccup in the first 30 minutes of gameplay.

System specs:
Q6600 @ 3.0
6 GB 800 MHz DDR2
GTX 460 2048
EVGA 790i
Win 7 64

All drivers up to date.

Right here is the specs:
Intel Core I5 M430(with Asus power 4 gear)
Nvidia Geforce GTS 360M 1Gb
4gb ram
EAX Advanced HD 4.0 sound
All Drivers and DirectX are up to date.
Also the latest crash was NOT running in overdrive, and the heatport goes right off the edge of my desk into the void of my room, so no issues, though its true, its VERY hot, but i would assume my laptop would have a bit bigger of a freakout if it was overheating...

Actually it wouldn't have a bigger freak out, pretty much all recent CPU and GPU when overheating these days just throttle themselves, hell most people don't even relise till it actually fries. It doesn't look like it's heat anyway cause you relise about not blocking the air vents (I've known people to dump them on cusions and wonder why their laptop suddenly stops working).

Anyway, if it's not actually crashing then debugging tools might not help, but might be worth turning them on just in case.

Can you also post your cfg your using? You never know you might have something turned on or off that shouldn't be. In fact you can use my cfg, since I know that works fine.
I don't know how good the GTS 360M 1Gb is but set it to medium and then close, edit the cfg to whats below and play mwll.

r_Height=1080
r_TexturesStreaming=0

[/spoiler]

The fact alot of people are having this problem, means that it is probably not your laptop but the game, and that's gonna take a while for the devs to pin down.

Oh yeah you never said what your running it on, dx10 or dx9, and I assume crysis is running x64. If my CFG doesn't help, then delete the shader folder in my documents, and change the DX to the other one. And then try again.

In fact just delete the shader folder anyway ;)
