Problem with weapons selection and fire
« on: July 29, 2011, 11:45:00 AM »
Hello !

I don't know if i'm the only one with this problem. I saw no other topic about it.
It's quite new... Since the last patch probably (around one week ago), I got sometimes problem with weapons selection (the use of the up right window), and to fire some weapons. I explain...

Sometimes, my weapons affected to my mouse button 1 (or 2)... just don't fire, when i hit this button.
I tryed plenty times, but it just don't work.
All i can do then, is to use the weapons selection window to unset the button affected for this weapon, then to set it back.
then only... it works again.

The even stranger problem i had once (but it happened only once)... was that button 1 was making fire the weapons set for button 2.
Really strange.

that's all.
I don't know if more players got this problem too... but it's strange, because i never had this kind of bug before (i'm playing since 1 and a helf month around probably), and i didn't change anything on my computer (no mouse driver changes nor anything like that).

P.S :

If that can hlep.. i'm playing with :
Windows 7 - 64
Mouse Logitech RX300

Mouse 1 fires the currently selected weapon group in the top right window

If group 1 is not selected, the groups will not fire properly. The reason it works after you reset it is because you unknowingly select group 1 again (by putting the highlighted column over it to reset the weapon groups), fixing the problem

To avoid such confusions you could possibly remap Mouse 1 from "fire current group" to "fire group 1" for vehicles via the action mapper.

At the moment i don't know of any bugs that prevent firing weapons when the weapon groups and the group selection are properly set up.

Sorry. i probably wasn't very clear in my previous sentence.
But for sure, in my problem, some weapons was selected as for Group 1 weapon :)
(I understood how work the weapon selection window).
that's why i think it's a bug when no weapon fire when i use mouse button 1.

for Cygma ok. thx.
I'll change the command settings as you said... to see if the problem happens again or not.

Maybe you already know that, but just to make sure: the highlighted weapon group is the "current weapon group" and per default "mouse 1" fires "current weapon group", not "weapon group 1".
If you had e.g. an empty weapon group highlighted, no weapon would be fired on pressing "mouse 1".

This

Weapons group 1 only fires if you click "1" on your keyboard. Mouse 1 fires the selected group, not group 1 (unless group 1 is the selected group)
Either map mouse 1 to fire group 1 (I did that before, but it caused some issues, although I tried it almost a year ago) or just make sure group 1 is always highlighed

Also don't forget to check your groups after sending cash. It usually remaps a weapon and changes the selected group, which is a real pain in the ass if you find out about it in the middle of a tense fight

And ALWAYS, ALWAYS check your weapon groups when you start playing for the day and just spawn that variant/mech for the first time... IT resets weapon groups. Lately I have been hopping in a sparrowhawk with the 2lrm5 and narc... well I take off forgetting to check my weapon groups... fly out, swoop in on a enemy to slam a narc on him, press my mouse two... and nothing! AWW sheet i forgot to fix the weapons group again... XD

So.... just to conclude, i confirm it was the problem :)
Since i changed my mouse 1 config from "current weapon group" to "weapon group 1" I never had this problem again.

Thanks !

@Cygma: Btw. is there any specific reason why Mouse 1 is mapped like that by default instead of mapped to Group 1?

I guess because until recently we could only toggle chainfire for the current group? Maybe we could change that default now.
