As cheap as it is, the fact that it's on Origin is enough to deter my purchase.

You don't need Origin to run the game; it's just the website you buy and download the games from.

Saber15,

Trust me on this. You do NOT want to get into to this issue with Mitchpate!!!

According to the FAQ, any game ordered and delivered via digital download requires their client to at least download, some to play.  This is also how they've done it on the last 3 versions (EA Download Manager/Downloader/Link).

My beef with Origin is their anti-competitive business practices targetting Steam and the fact that once they "retire" a game you can't download it anymore.  You essentially lose the license to it.  Considering the number of "old" titles I have from 10+ years ago that I occassionally reinstall and play, this is a major issue for me.

I never knew this...makes me glad I have BF 2142 and Northern Strike on disc.  Thank you for pointing this out.

They took the online servers down. They would need to be modded to play online.

Wait, 2142 is LAN/bot bashing only now?!  >:( I was just about to load that up and play...this makes me really not want to even try SWTOR.

Interestingly, the aircraft don't seem to fly very much faster than the ASF in MWLL; which seems to be a complaint of those in favor of more realism.

The aircraft speeds shown in that video are typical of the Battlefield series and AFAIK there have never been complaints as to the "realisticness" of them.  The difference is that BF maps are typically enormous and MWLL maps are, well, not.

Devs do the best with the engine they have.

I would be very surprised if BF3 maps are greater than 8192 meters square.

With 64 players on the map, it'll be hard to not be greater than that.

Interesting, that actually looks like a proper Battlefield game, I was fully expecting Bad Company 2.5.

But even though I've been craving for a worthy successor to BF2, with Origin as a requirement (and EA's dubious EULA) and no ingame server browser, I'm not sure I want to give them my money...
