TC/TSA Monument/Nocturnal Valley
« on: August 12, 2011, 05:00:22 AM »
I am working on a simple map using the terrain heightmaps from monument valley, usa. There will be a few versions of the map including multiple TSA variants and one TC version. I am still quite a ways from a release but first I need help from the community.

I have been trying for some time to get a custom skybox working in the map but I am having little success. At this rate it is taking all of the time I could be spending to actually make the map so I am about to give up on it. Attached are all the files necessary to create the skybox: .pdn files with all the layers (paint.net), the appropriate .dds files, the bitmap of the horizon, and even the .mtl file.

Here are the problems I am having:
1. I can't seem to get the sides to line up properly in the actual skybox. They all work individually, but something is wrong with the images in the .dds files.
2. The skybox looks like a cube instead of a believable sphere.

Most of the work on the skybox is done, but unless someone can finish it for me it will never be released in the map

Thanks

Cool map! But seems minimap is not drawn to scale.

Interesting map to run around on... but definitely does make it difficult without the minimap to get your bearings.  Even so, it's got some great features, interesting terrain, and has a lot of potential.

Monument version A is complete. I fixed the minimap and played with the vegetation and its ready to be played. This is a large TSA/ToS map using the heightmap of Monument Valley National Park, USA. Textures are based on the satellite imagery of the region

Version B will be a smaller version centered around the volcanoes.

Version C will be a TC version incorporating the best of both A and B.

Something is weird with the new ftp account. I'll have to look into it.
Meanwhile this link will work:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/34019778/TSA_Monument_A.zip
This link is auto-downloader ready

I should point out that there are some map resources within the folders inside /TSA_Monument_A/ so don't mess with them or bad things will happen  :P

If correctly set up (i.e. zip file format and server-side cvars) there is only one known issue with XP 32bit that can prevent installation through the autodownloader.

When we played the map, there were a few comments on the color.  It is quite eye popping, no doubt.  Perhaps a bit more burnt orange would give it a bit better likeness to the area it's mapped from...
