Making of MWLL?
« on: August 16, 2011, 12:43:44 AM »
Hello devs,

Will you make a making of MWLL when 1.0 has been hit?

I'm sure there are lots of people who are interested in how you modded the Cryengine, how exactly the mechs were made and how you developed the pod system. Also why and how you decided which content to add, how to translate CBT values into numbers fit for real-time action etc. MWLL is a giant project and if there was a website or youtube-movie featuring such information, I'm sure many people would love to see how some concepts for a Crysis-mod became (and will further become) one of the best Battletech-adaptations ever released.

I agree but I think it would be a long-term project, as making 'making of' videos take away from development time and can take quite a bit of effort to put together.

It'd likely be more like a series of interviews done by a non-dev, like Doorknob's interviews that appeared on the MWLL front page.

That. A series of interviews, together with visuals from early developmental stages, concept art etc. covering several different chapters like "who got the idea, how did the team find each other" or "turning mechs into tanks".

Doorknob's interviews are really nice to listen to, so I figure he might, with the help of som others, be able to create an exciting narrative for such a 'documentary'. I sincerly hope he plans on doing so :D . If there is animo to make a making of, I'd of course love to help where I can (outlining contents, gather visual media, talking to people...)!

That's why I said "after they hit 1.0" :D Wouldn't want them to put their mod on hold just to satisfy my need for proper documentation ;)

Well, I would guess they have documented some of it??  Perhaps not.. I know with a project this size.. I'd want to have some things that would remind me of just how far it has come.

If they haven't... never too late to start!  Just because you guys volunteer doesn't mean you shouldn't have some fun making something to remember the days (and sleepless nights I have no doubt) whilst working on such an inspiring project.

This is the fun part... even when it's not.  May not make sense to some, but makes perfect sense to me!

We may do a Post Mortem after 1.0, but we will most undoubtedly never release our internal documentation to the public.

Can you shad any light on the why?
There comes a point where the talking must stop, and people have to do actual work.

Don't leave us hanging with just that!  How come we lost our favorite commentator and noob-helper?

Well that's an unexpected post... sorry to hear you leaving the fold.  I would have looked like even more of a noob had I not sat down and watched your videos... they were key in getting me started so I knew what the flying fig I was doing.

I was hoping to even see some vtol and aerospace vids... you'll be missed I am sure.
