MWLL Saitek X52 large throttle deadzone
« on: August 21, 2011, 02:36:24 PM »
Okay, so after wrestling with an X52 a mate loaned me, I was able to get the stick functioning properly on MWLL, until I hop into a server and find that the approximate throttle range from full reverse to full forwards is approximately from the 50 on the throttle lever indicator to 55 at most. I've already tweaked all the deadzones and the likes in the hope that this was the problem, but nothing's helped. Only the throttle has this issue, and I have both the profiling software and the drivers installed. Is there any solution for this issue, or should I go back to my Thrustmaster/mouse combi?

CPU Specs:

Win7 Ultimate 64 bit
Intel Core2Quad Q6600
nVidia 9600GT 1gb
8GB DDR2 RAM
Asus P5ND mobo

maybe your profiling software has some deadzone options you can play with assuming you've already exhausted using the joystick settings deadzone options in the actionmapper
Play my free open source web game MiniMek - Urbie Defense!  Its "mega fun" but with mini meks!

from what I can tell, the profiling software doesn't deal with deadzones; it deals with macro maps for the keys. Deadzones are set in the controller options in the control panel, but all deadzones are set to zero, even in the actionmapper...

In fact, here are the joystick deadzones in the control panel:

And the action maps, if anyone thinks they can fix it from there:

Don't mess with the default deadzones in the saitek profiler or windows, they work for great every game EXCEPT MWLL.

Included with MWLL is an actionmap built specifically for the X52.  See if that helps.

Does it matter if it's not the pro version?

I've never messed with the deadzone options for the Saitek, actually. And I think there might be an issue or two with using an x52 Pro getup with a non-Pro X52 in that some of the buttons might be numbered differently, leading to good times when controlling the 'Mech

Although, the Saitek does have a few sliders on it. Would it be entirely possible to set one of them to throttling the 'Mech, and then assign the throttle lever on the HOTAS itself to that throttle slider via the profiler? I was initially going to use that slider for rapid throttle adjustments, but I can do without that if I have to.

The x52 and x52 Pro have the same buttons and should have the same button number assignments.  The primary difference is that the x52 Pro has better axis accuracy and is built with stronger materials.  The Saitek profiler does distinguish between the two but any game-based profiler won't be able to tell them apart.

The sliders appear as an independent, one-way axis so yes you could configure it to be the throttle in the MWLL profiler.

I believe it is actually a problem with the software itself for windows.

I have 64 bit windows 7 and I've given up on attempting to get mine to work.

MWLL is the only game I've ever had issues running my x52 pro with on Win7 x64.  I'm hesitant to blame that on windows, saitek, or the x52...

Does it work in regular Crysis/wars?

No it doesn't work in Crysis, period.  Well, it works, just terribly.

Problem I'm having is that someone has dialed the sensitivity to 11 and all I need to do is a little twist in the X-axis and it will go all the way to the left/right.

Yeah when I was trying to make it work it took me a couple hours of constantly switching between game and MWLL profiler to get the axis configured how I wanted.  I never could get the throttle to work right but my understanding is the problem I had with it has since been fixed.

My X52 (not pro) works great.
Find my thread on the throttle ramping to 100.  In it I describe how to properly assign the throttle in actionmapper.

I can also email you my profiles.
