Deus Ex: Human Revolution
« on: August 24, 2011, 08:53:51 AM »
Why is there not a thread on this?!

Copy arrived today, played about 7 or so hours of it so far.... and I think I'm only 1/6th of the way through from what people have said. Just go finished with the police station quest, mostly at least.

This game is CRAZY GOOD, so refreshing to play a AAA game that has some real legit depth to it for once. Gonna have to take a break because my hands are about to fall off.

Started playing when the game unlocked on Steam yesterday at midnight, and I can only echo the refreshing sentiment. It's such a great departure from the comparatively simple corridor shooters of the majority of today's FPS's.

Doesn't unlock on Steam for a good part of the world just yet (7 hours at time of posting for me) so the current audience for the game is a touch limited... that said, no spoilers!! >:(

Not sure if it's a spoiler or not but there's been a fair number of issues with specific graphics cards.  If you run into an issue check the Steam message board for help.

I started playing it after work yesterday after work for about 4 hours.  Definitely all around good, the only things you'll need to find it in yourself to forgive is:

- the loading times can be a bit on the long side, even for loading a quick save, but only compared to other recent games, however its nothing you can't get over (20-30 seconds tops)
- the conversations have great dialog, and all voice acted well, however the animations of characters during these sequences are not as smooth as they could be (like in Mass Effect)

Otherwise its a pretty good experience, worthy of being called a Deus Ex game.  Here's a few of the things I really liked:

- the combat isn't about sponging damage or emptying a whole clip in a single foe, if you take more than a few hits you will die (at least until you upgrade your armor augments), and same goes to most enemies (except bosses I hear)
- the stealth play is rewarding, and the hacking mini-game isn't too bad
- the story is pretty engaging

I did have one interesting situational bug where I gained access to the police station, being able to walk around the place without the cops shooting at me.  However, as soon as I stepped out the front door of the police station after finishing the quest inside the cops shoot and kill me and I have no chance at all to get away as I'm dead in like 2 seconds out the door.  So I ended up having to find the roof access and exit that way just to avoid being killed.  Not entirely sure who I killed or what I did to make those cops outside hostile to me but oh well at least I got past it.
Play my free open source web game MiniMek - Urbie Defense!  Its "mega fun" but with mini meks!

^ that sounds like a fun bug.  Just like in DX1, the female cyborg would stealth and run away for the story.... but i found where she was hiding, killed her, and picked up all her awesome drops :D

Steam copy unlocked at 2am, yay! But wait, there's more! Your files are too defragmented! Ok, run the defragger thing.... working now, yay! Lol decrypting... ffuuuuu. Finally after that, I'm itching to play, then it has to sit there and install more crap, by the time I actually got to play it was nearly 3am, so I watched the tutorials (hacking looks awesome) and went to bed.

Just got done with Detroit. I freakin' love the social battles in this game, though it kinda sucks in that I always want to reload if I fail one :(

I'm enjoying this game a lot myself. Definitely a credit to the series... unlike a certain unmentionable second incarnation of the Deus Ex collection...

Long load times are my only complaint so far.
Well, that and the fact that a major corporation established it's HQ in Detroit. I mean, come on, Eidos! It's DETROIT!

They did a great job of recreating that city though. It looks run down and trashy in most areas. Just like in real life!
