Seriously, this thread is ignorant because no single player can win a match.  Its a combined arms game that requires teamwork.  The best player is not the one who can walk away with the best K:D ratio, as I have demonstrated that is easy to do.  The best player perhaps is the one who can get the team working together and overcome the odds.

Yeah, (null) pulls off some crazy shots against BA with his lasers, it's crazy.

Ground is pretty good at taking out low flying aero too, I hear he's made some pilots rage even.

And don't forget Mech_Legs_Built, that guy kills pilots before they even get int their mechs!

Mech_legs_Built is a dirty cheap cheater... almost as bad as spawn killing, but he likes to toy with you, let you get in a mech fine for a while then POW, right in the kisser... to death

Oh yeah that, well it depends on what we're talking about. 

If we talk about
1v1 aeros i'm sure many of us ground pounders would be F'd pretty bad.
1v1 tanks, Yakamoto Fuji, though i've seen quite a few other tankers lately.
1v1 BA's no idea.
1v1 LTs dunno i don't think we've ever tried that.
1v1 APC's could last forever.
etc

Point being, there's so many parts to MWLL, that there is no real BEST since there's so many assets people can play.

I wanted to know if there was a guy that everyone knew who was unanamously the best. I didnt know there were any 1v1 tournys, i've just came back from a long hiatus, we should hold another!

Nope, we don't have any one guy that nobody can beat.  We all take our lumps and give in kind for the most part.  The recent 1v1 tournament hosted by 7.WD was an invitational tourney consisting of 8 players only.  A fully open tournament would be much better at answering your question, but it would also be a pain to administer.

Edit: imo the best way to track skill in a combined arms game like this is to track total wins, or maybe win:loss ratio.  Hardly perfect, team stacking can throw this off, but it's probably the best single stat for answering your question.
