World of Tanks
« on: August 31, 2011, 01:47:20 PM »
This is a fun game that does not require a steep learning curve and is a free download and you can play free or buy gold to buy stuff your choice. They are also on the process of World of Aircraft, World of Soldiers and World of Battleships. When all the game parts are completed they will be combined into a single Combined Arms Massive on-line player game. You can play third person or sit in the commanders seat using you scope and firing the main gun. You have a tech ladder to climb using Post WW1 to the 1950's era equipment from The USA, Germany and the Soviet Union, this includes experimental tanks that did not see action. This also includes Tank killers, Arty and standard tanks. the graphics are great several maps sets and currently it is kill all enemy tanks or capture the flag. So for all you tread heads, mount up and roll out!

From their website and start-up page they have links to interviews that were held by IGN and others. Click the story link Tenton Hammer World of Warships they also discussed these games at trade shows with sneak peeks. Only drawback is that are are not going to do subs they consider them like snipers and everyone would get a sub and one poor Bastard (their words) would take a ship and have his but continuously handed to him. (No Fun, no balance)

They've clearly not played with their OP russian tanks in their own game then.

Was ok for a bit but the pay-to-pwn with completely superior ammo and tanks that are pay only really got on my tits after a while.  Also very limited amount of maps it got boring really quickly.

I had read it during the set up here are links and the last one is the company itself and they are covering everything from dirt to outerspace with all the different titles. Perhaps is is not called world of soldiers but the developer was saying that was in the planning stages for after they complete world of battleships and world of aircraft with the ultimate goal of linking them all together into one gigantic MMO.

The link from their start page and website is an interview done by Tentonhammer.com

Well I read the interviews and at least in those, there's no mention of a World of Soldiers and only a short line about the different games maybe affecting the clan mode, which can't really be called an MMO :P
And the four outer space titles they've got listed on their page are either RTS or TBS, nothing like WoT

I think world of battleship is interesting it's a really fresh idea never played a game that had a big focus on battleship. The only thing that worries me about WoB is the question of cover and how the game will play. I guess it will all be about speed and distance.

The funny thing being, this is exactly what artillery does in WoT, lol.

They've clearly not played with their OP russian tanks in their own game then.

Usually, their drivers tend to be rather sub-par, though, since they've been depending on OP tanks for so long.  When you have been depending on a Tiger, the armor of which can be penetrated by damned near anything and lose half your modules/crew in the process, you learn every trick in the book to stay alive and come out on top.

Not really, SPGs are rather fragile, a single light tank that breaks through the lines can take them out easily.
And after a few tiers, they stop doing insta-kills and need to make their shots count, so you won't see any organized games where everyone takes artillery.
Subs would be submerged most of the time, so they wouldn't be that easy to spot, but also wouldn't be as long ranged.
But from what I can tell so far, Carriers are probably going to be the "artillery" role.

I have noticed that Shermans in the game are damn near indestructible which is funny in the early models they were referred to as Ronsons, British crews called them this after the lighter Company whose motto was Lights the first time and every time. This was because Shermans used Cadillac engines run on gasoline and would catch fire when hit where the German Tanks were diesel and not so easy to catch on fire.. As for armor the Shermans was lousy and the primary gun would only knock dents in the Tiger's armor.

The only way for a Sherman to kill a Tiger was to get behind it and shoot it in the ass. Watch Movie Kelley's heroes, what the tank crew said about tigers was reality the rest was hollywood make believe. It was not until the American crews started to weld extra armor on the sides and front plus putting everything they could imagine on the outside of the tank did the Germans shell start to have penetration problems. After that the crews got an up gunned version the Firefly that started to help but the Germans changed over to sloping their armour which helped effectively make the armour react as if they had added amour. This they did with the Panther and all their later armor when they saw how effective the sloping armor was on T-34s.

German and Japanese subs were extremely long ranged in their WW2 configurations. The US subs had fairly good legs but British and the rest of the world subs were not up to par for distance. WW2 subs still were shaped like a surface ship until the Germans built the type XXI which had far better batteries and a more hydrodynamic hull. But all the subs were still surface dependant having to surface to run on diesel to recharge their batteries or at the least snorkel at night. It was not until the U.S.S. Nautilus was built, that subs became true undersea boats as Jules Verne envisioned only needing to surface to restock food and other consumables.

I have in three days of play built up to level three and I am about to go to four all with out spending a dime I shall do further reviews as I go up and see what I can do without using "Gold."
