There are three categories of potential players:
1. Video gamers.
2. Mechwarriors.
3. Battletechers.
Second category is your safest bet, but first is the largest group by far.
You can further divide Mechwarriors into old school guys who mainly played Mw2 and 3 and would come out of a fairly long retirement to play MWLL; and MW4 players who will take some time to filter into MWLL if they ever come at all. MW4 has a metric shitton of work poured into it over the last decade or so, so it is fairly feature rich, in comparison MWLL is in its infancy. As the mod adds features (and hopefully more mechs) in its march toward maturity then more and more of the MW4 community will give it a try I think.
First category would just be good online advertisement, getting online gaming sites to talk about MWLL and not just in a "crysis mods" type of way. Let people know MWLL is looking to be a worthy addition to the MW franchise rather than some sideshow attraction with pretty graphics.
I know nothing of the third category.... Put a "free beer at
www.mechlivinglegends.net" at every comic book shop and tabletop gaming shop you see?
