Thought for getting more players
« on: September 06, 2011, 01:10:32 AM »
So I've been thinking about how we could get more players to join our ranks and I had one thought that just keeps popping up. Find a way to give discounts on the purchase of Warhead if you register with MWLL, 50% off or something. It would take the Devs working a deal with Crytek and a distributor, but think it might help.

Also have free giveaways or drawings for free copies to give to friends and family. Maybe even involve MWBU in having a copy as part of the prizes awarded.

Another idea if we go down the deal with crytek path, is to have stickers printed saying something like bonus free game, with a description of and link to MWLL printed on the sticker, have these placed on the warhead cases at the manufactoring point.
Crytek wins because they get a bonus game as a selling point, and we do because it advertises MWLL at a point of sale level

You have to understand the code of duty and honor that rules those who pilot these engines of destruction. Placing such an awesome weapon in the hands of an individual implies a similar gesture of trust

I love this idea and had thought about it, but thought it would be best to hold it till MWLL is not in Beta anymore and has it's V1.0 release.

it's a nice idea but i wouldn't keep your hopes on a crysis wars discount.  At this point, crysis wars isn't really a profit center, meaning they're not looking at that product when doing fiances.  Not to mention CE2 is not the "new hawtness".  If they're trying to liense CE3 it makes no sense to promote something on CE2.

As for new players, the requirements are kinda steep and there are fewer and fewer power gamers that constantly upgrade their rigs.  From the vet MW crowd, ... well I wouldn't count on them.  They're content to have either moved on or would rather play a more "matured" product in MW4 mektek.

I've just looked up Mektek as had never heard of it and check out this story from the mektek.net homepage:

http://www.mektek.net/index.php/home/community-articles/mechwarrior-movie-in-the-works-r1281

Bit of a sensationalist headline, but a new movie/series would certainly bring in more players!

Read the posts comments, they all say it looks more like just renewing the IP rights. We actually had a thread going with this here, and that was this communitys thoughts as well, just renewing.

Well in that case maybe the Devs could start negotiations on letting us do a free release of our own to those who want to play MWLL or show the interest. Before everyone says no, or likely not going to happen, try please. It's free and it doesn't hurt anyone to ask them about it.

Someone said they use to burn cds of the latest mwll, go to a few local game stores and asked them if he could attach the cd to the crysis disks with a blurb about it.
I thought that was a interesting thing

^ could work if it's a privately owned game shop. wouldn't probably fly in most chain ones though since people will want support etc.

@Werewolf.  I'm not sure what you're suggesting here.  MWLL is still in beta and the devs have said they're going to own all releases until 1.0.  Have a separate set of "community" releases would just gum up the compatibilities and cause confusion among our small player base.

I think ultimately he wants to focus on growing the community, not necessarily padding the pocketbooks for Crysis.. though it is an interesting idea to get people exposed to the mod.

Growing the community is an excellent topic though... need to spread the word, invite your friends, tell the locals at your nearest BattleTech simulator pod fragtorium, and probably some heavy internet pushing. ;)

Well tbh the only way this community can grow is if money gets put in to Cryteks pockets, as the game is needed to run.

Absolutely but I think 'Website -> Purchase Crysis' vs. 'Purchase Crysis -> Website' is a better formula to retain folk... and let's be honest, do we really think people are out in the world buying Crysis just for Crysis?

There are three categories of potential players:

1. Video gamers.

2. Mechwarriors.

3. Battletechers.

Second category is your safest bet, but first is the largest group by far.

You can further divide Mechwarriors into old school guys who mainly played Mw2 and 3 and would come out of a fairly long retirement to play MWLL; and MW4 players who will take some time to filter into MWLL if they ever come at all. MW4 has a metric shitton of work poured into it over the last decade or so, so it is fairly feature rich, in comparison MWLL is in its infancy. As the mod adds features (and hopefully more mechs) in its march toward maturity then more and more of the MW4 community will give it a try I think.

First category would just be good online advertisement, getting online gaming sites to talk about MWLL and not just in a "crysis mods" type of way. Let people know MWLL is looking to be a worthy addition to the MW franchise rather than some sideshow attraction with pretty graphics.

I know nothing of the third category.... Put a "free beer at www.mechlivinglegends.net" at every comic book shop and tabletop gaming shop you see?  ::)

I just want more players involved. I really think we need to increase our numbers, that's all. I'm not sure how we can do this, but I would love to see more than 90 players involved. I'm hoping that my friends who I'm getting involved will help me to spread the word more, but I'm not sure how many we can bring.
