Bird in the hand>>>2 in the bush

having one loyal customer is always more beneficial than the possibility/chance of gaining two more...

I think pre-1.0 launch the focus should be on research/development and keeping those loyal community members/beta testers interested and involved in the game...

Thus new Mechs >>>> anything else (excluding bug fixes and general improvements/stability)

Edit: so I guess I'm disagreeing with the whole thread, I think it's far more important to keep a strong community that's been here multiple years than try and spread the word atm....closer too 1.0 sure....

Expecting understanding and empathy on the internet (especially in Toast [especially by Bill]) = fail.

And I say hey hey hey....I said hey, what's goin' on And I say hey.... hey....I said hey, what's goin' on

New mechs is the endgame for getting more people.

Once everything else is in, then the more mechs = more attractive MW game.

And a MechLab, giving players the ability to create new varients themselves

Imo build/test/refine makes for a good interest cycle
You have to understand the code of duty and honor that rules those who pilot these engines of destruction. Placing such an awesome weapon in the hands of an individual implies a similar gesture of trust

Mech lab, see I think it would be a great way to get more people involved. If you open up the possibilities more with a mech lab some who are on the fence would fall off.

Oh man I feel like I'm being drawn into a debate that might provoke someone to post a picture of guys beating a dead horse, but...

I caution with one thought that most casual players may not take advantage of a mechlab, and likely be taken advantaged of because of that. Games survive and propser off of casual players, not the extreme dedicated. The MMO market is a good example of this.  :-X

For games that is true.

For mods the opposite is true.  :D

Word of mouth works wonders. For some god awful reason, the word just isn't getting out there.

Just two days ago a buddy of mine in a new unit met a BattleTech/MechWarrior fan who HAD Crysis Warhead and a beastly machine to run it all... never heard of this mod.

What I've been doing is mentioning MWLL on the various offtopic sections of the different MMO's I've played. I'll post a link, a video and some screenies.

Though what would really help with that is an actual video based on different aspects. The 0.5.0 intro video is good.. but not everyone is into Arena style play. One of you guys that have the talent for it should make a video for us to distribute

- Version numbering is largely irrelevent.   This will always be a mod so "1.0" doesn't matter.

- ROUTINE MWLL updates matter!  At Xfire (I was there almost 6 years), we released a new client every 3 weeks.  Each update had either a new feature (sometimes in alpha!) or improvements to existing features.  MWLL needs more frequent updates!  Yes, make the changes small but keep them coming.  New = interesting = new players.  Some features may take several releases to be.developed before release.  Don't block the entire release!  (also watch feature creep).  So far I only see pretty hardcore players on MWLL.  Tighter release cycles means alpha/beta features can be released and vetted by the user base and adjusted quickly
by devs.  Daily peak players is only about 70 or so.  This is a mod.  Everyone should expect issues.

- Key MWLL websites should *highlight* Doorknob's excellent videos.  I only found MWLL due to his videos.  An extension of this is use his videos for training.   In-game tutorials are effort as a single player campaign.  Dev cyccles should be spent adding features and fixing bugs, not making a tutorial engine.  Dev resources are limited.  Pick your battles.

More to come when I am not posting from my phone.

Something to be said for that. If you look at the art pipeline thread things were "supposed" to be released in a more streamlined fashion.
Things have gotten off to a slower start than expected I guess, but I'm still hoping for a frequent update system to get going after the next patch.

WOW~Onesoul has a really good grasp on things, from his Phone!  Maybe he should jump into the PR role for MWLL and work with Doorknob and the Devs! Working for Xfire I say has some clout, so it might be worth while to see if he can do more for the project.

As for the comment by xInVicTuSx about things happening slower, I think we are all in agreement with that and when you combine it with Onesoul's comment it might be really cool to roll out more frequent updates with less of an overhaul, do little things each update. I wish I could code or model, I would love to help out more.  I think this Mod has the ability to be so awesome and played by the masses!

I got MWLL added to Xfire (worked on the support) and PR isn't my strong suit (techops is).  I will ask Matt Gilman (prior Xfire VP Marketing) for advice.  I recall some of his team are big Battletech/Mechwarrior fans.  Perhaps I can get them and their connections involved.

again from my phone. ;-)

I still think a good video showing some of the footage of the different mechs and vehicles would draw some people in. Movie editing is not my forte, but I'm willing to help by piloting whatever is needed for a video shot.

The video doesn't need to be an official one made by the dev and alpha testing teams, it just needs to be flashy enough to gain attention so when we're visiting various forums or chats, we can link to it so people can see what they are missing out on.

Awesome man, get them interested in the mod! Oh and Show off with the phone!

So an idea I'm really liking is the video. Can we get Doorknob involved on this one? I'm thinking we can work out a few great clips of pre-staged footage and build a scripted video to load.   Should I launch a thread on putting a scripted video together on this or not?

Doorknob unfortunately uninstalled MWLL and hasn't visited the forum in almost a month.

His last post:

Doorknob's interviews are really nice to listen to, so I figure he might, with the help of som others, be able to create an exciting narrative for such a 'documentary'. I sincerly hope he plans on doing so :D

Doubtful. I uninstalled last night.
