A few newbie questions on mechanics
« on: September 07, 2011, 03:03:37 AM »
So after playing a few hours the other night I realized I didn't quite understand how some things were working, I looked around the forums and wiki and was unable to find any answers.

1. What actions increase available credits
2. Is there anything that will decrease credits (aside from giving them to others)?
3. What is factored into the "Score"
4. What increases your xp towards the next rank, does anything take away this xp?
5. I've seen people returning from a fight quite a distance back to the hanger to repair/reload, is this preferable (score/xp/credits/etc) to dying?
6. When selling a mech at the hanger bay, are you refunded the full purchase price? or is it some ratio?
7. With the credit increase per rank, are any remaining credits from the previous death added to that amount? (ex If I dont spend any of the starting 50k credits and roll out as a stock BA, when I die I don't get 100k, is anything at all carried over?)
8. I'm not quite sure how to properly repair a mech, I've pulled into the bay and powered down but after waiting a minute or two and powering back up it still appears my armor is in the same state, is there any progress indicator for repairing?

I think that's all that has me puzzled at the moment, and thanks in advance!

1. Damage, kills, C3, banking, capturing bases
2. Team killing in TC and TSA
3. The same things that earn you cbills (same as question 1, except for banking)
4. Answers 1 and 2 respectively
5. Usually, yes
6. 70% of full cost of 'mech, minus damage
7. No
8. If your cbills are going down then you are repairing.  Once they stop you are all repaired up.  In terrain control maps, you can't repair in a single 'mech bay, only at the main base and a repair gantry.

Lots of good info on the wiki.

Well if you earn more than you would otherwise spawn with, and then die, you will have all those c-bills.

5. Yes, you not dying stops the other team gaining more xp and money, and selling your damaged asset gives you extra cash to combine with what you earned, potentially allowing you to buy something even better.
7. Alf already got this, but to elaborate, if you die with 76,000, and your rank dictates you respawn with 75,000, you will start at 76,000. You need to die with more cash than your rank to see this change.

2. There is a limit how many people can be of a certain rank, and this means you can get "pushed down" a rank. Most notice this at Khan or saKhan level. So if someone else on your team outscores you you will get "pushed down" and spawn with less CBills (according to the new rank you were pushed down to).

It should also be noted that suicides dock you a negative score (and CBills). I understand the Aero pilots tend to suffer this when they bash their craft against the ground. Can also happen if you overheat and override it of course, causing yourself to pop from the damage. Also note that "team kill" is not necessary to decrease your score, team _damage_ is sufficient. So take care where you fire those guns.

/Merf - Damage, deal it and avoid getting it

You also get C-bills/points from placing a NARC or TAG on a target while other teammates damage that target.

C3 payout is based on the size of mechs and number detected. If you join a game late and the enemy team has a lot of heavy mechs, you can get a lot of cbills very quickly from just C3.

You get more cbills when you use a smaller asset to damage a larger asset. e.g. An owens shooting a Madcat generates more cbills than shooting another Owens.

You can also gain Cbills by deploying an APC.  You'll get extra cash any time someone spawns or buys ammo/B equipment form it.

I think APCs only give you money from purchases if you were driving them at the time the purchase was made.  Can anyone confirm that?

Donating your money before you die, helps the team the most. Because the bills are not lost.
Keep in mind that you cannot transfer money if you were shot during the last 30 seconds. This means, share your money BEFORE you engage in battle.
Because if you die, you will get at least 49k, depending on your rank.

Also I think that since the most recent patch APCs have a limit on how much money they can earn you.  The APC seems to have a finite supply of ammo, as I often return to the same APC to find that it's no-longer selling me goodies, and have a couple of times just got refills and the odd spare ton (and leave with say 3 tons free) when I'm trying to buy a full reload :(

Maybe that's a bug? I really don't know how APCs work since the last patch.

Pretty sure thats a bug. I've been unable to buy, then walked away and came back to the same APC and was able to buy again.

A while ago I placed an APC down when half our team was going BA

I got points while in the field (as BA myself) whenever someone spawned or bought ammo (not sure about BA weapons)
I had over 200k before I even met an enemy (they had a few partis shredding our other BA dudes so I kept my head down while they fed me cash for respawning at the APC)

As long as the client does not purchase a new vehicle, that player earns C-Bills from friendly players purchasing at the APC, iirc.
