3 Questions from a dirty newb!
« on: September 09, 2011, 11:29:47 PM »
Hello all!

I've just started playing the game, great work dev team!

I've checked out threads and tried to find as much info as I could, but I'm left with 3 questions.

1. When I hit tab, I see that every player on the score screen has a speaker icon by his name except mine. I've turned on my VOIP option in the menu, but still nothing. Does this mean everyone on my team is communicating but me? Is there something I need to download to fix this?

2. Yesterday I found a thread that had a mech progression as you learn.  I found it really helpful in ranking up, but now I can't find said thread. (Wife deleted browser history)  Anyone know which one I'm talking about?

3. Is it considered poor sportmanship to take Streak SRM boats?  I've seen the vulture B hate threads, but to be honest, I'm such a poor shot I have a hard time hitting with anything else.  Any suggestions?

Cheers (and hope to see you all ingame)

Answer to 1: It is rare for people to use in-game voice chat in pubs. If you don't hear it, its not going on; I believe the mic thing beside peoples names in the tab menu is either meaningless or so vague it is meaningless.

Answer to 2: Lazors lazors lazors lazors lazors lazors

Answer to 3: To be honest, in both TSA and TC, they are situational. I stopped using them mostly because they are ineffective in taking out more than one target, which doesn't work well once you know what your doing. I do, however, find it a major bummer when I just gunned down a novacat, a bushwhacker, and a Raven in my Thanny only to get steamrolled by a Vulture because it is both too fast for me to escape and shakes the fapp out of my cockpit so I can't defend myself. Use what you need to use, though. If you want to be a super-good sport, don't take them.
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

I quoted your text an inserted my answers in bold.

1. When I hit tab, I see that every player on the score screen has a speaker icon by his name except mine. I've turned on my VOIP option in the menu, but still nothing. Does this mean everyone on my team is communicating but me? Is there something I need to download to fix this?

I have no idea what the icons mean but almost no one uses the voip in this game so it's not like you're missing out.

2. Yesterday I found a thread that had a mech progression as you learn.  I found it really helpful in ranking up, but now I can't find said thread. (Wife deleted browser history)  Anyone know which one I'm talking about?

N/A

3. Is it considered poor sportmanship to take Streak SRM boats?  I've seen the vulture B hate threads, but to be honest, I'm such a poor shot I have a hard time hitting with anything else.  Any suggestions?

It is considered poor sportmanship by some but not by me.

Have fun playing MWLL!

I think maybe the speaker icons are just there so you can click them and mute that player, so perhaps its not applicable on yourself

I think the only thing that many, but not all, consider poor sportsmanship is intentionally targetting only legs on all your targets.  But the way I see it, if you come across a target who's legs are already pretty weakened, they're fair game.

1. Almost no one uses ingame VOIP. If you would like to speak with some of the community you can try downloading TS3 and going to ts9.gameservers.com:9144
The majority of units keep all or some of their members active on the server.

2. No idea, hopefully someone who remembers making such a list will remember and post.

3. Use what you need to use to rank up, but once you have the cash, spread out and try new things; you may find something that works much better than the easiest path.

1) Forget about the VoIP.
2) I would recommend (and alternatives) this way for you: Owens C (Raven D) --> Bushwacker D (SCat C for long range) --> Thor A (Vulture A for long range) --> Mk2 B (NCat A for long range). You can also use Hollanders, nearly all Bushwackers and SCats.

1. Download TS3 (Team Speak 3) and get the channels from anyone here and join us in them!

2. Shoot the wife....

3. If you find something that works for you and your having fun, piss on anyone who would call you out on it! You play this to enjoy it right? So if you enjoy Sramming the crap out of people I say rocket on! I personally have being shot at by them, but I don't complain when I get into it with one! Enjoy the mod, don't over analyze it, don't take it to seriously and most of all there are no "Stupid" question! Don't know, just ask or search the forum!

About Vulture B: it is considered as bad behaviour in Solaris Arena matches. TSA and TC are fine with it. On Solaris Arena it is in fact fine to use Vulture B, but be ready, that every player will shoot you on sight! ;)

Nix the "Bad Behavior" it's just not appreciated, they don't feel it's "Sporting" of you to use it. Then again I think some people get a little to out of control with unwritten rules! If you enjoy it, it gives you a sporting chance in your eyes, and you don't mind certain overly opinionated people disliking you for it, then use it. I may switch to it just to irritate those who might complain about it. Forget what the nay sayers have to offer, just play the game and enjoy it, don't over think it, and most importantly pay no attention to the ones who have the mind set "This is how it should be!" People get upset if they feel you have an edge that they don't, if they feel the Vulture B is an edge I don't understand why. The Vult B blows up just like the rest and it may take a more skilled pilot to kill it without getting critted, but that's their problem.

Just enjoy the game, that's what it's for, right?

The only reason I would say to avoid the Vulture B, is that once the enemy team or everyone else in SA sees you, they will call you out and you will have every other mech out there after you.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

Don't see what the fuss is about the Streak Vulture, the MRM Catapult will utterly wreck it and its cheaper with JJs.
