'Scuse me, but, as far as I understand, small Helium-3 reactors have already been made that generate power, just very little because the reactor is very tiny...
Yes, they generate power.  But at a net loss.  They use more power then they output.  I don't think simply using more helium-3 is the issue.  But I'm not a scientist so that's just what I *think* I've heard.

Its not progress because NASA still gets sloppy seconds in the budget when compared to the military.
All governmental agencies get a pittance compared to the defense spending every year.
People argue why America is not a power house anymore and it is because education and science are not funded at even realistic levels.
The only way the US will be a guiding light is through scientific endeavors like space exploration and material science to assist space flight.
Look at all that came out of the Apollo program.
Imagine what NASA could do with double the budget they are allotted.
That would barely cut into defense spending yet it still doesn't happen.
I hope politicians get their heads out of their asses and realize they can help the US more by funding agencies more than defense contractors.
I hope things change in the next 5 years or the state of research is going to really suck.

If you gave NASA an unlimited budget they still wouldn't be getting anything done.  Their problems aren't funding related, they're management related.

No, I know there are management issues, hence my statement of only double.
Other agencies and departments could use funds though.
I don't want NASA underfunded and ending up like this.
