Four legged Mechs
« on: September 21, 2011, 11:51:39 PM »
I checked first and didn't see anything on this, so If I'm dredging up an old topic sorry.

I was wondering if any four legged mechs like the Tarantula, Scorpion, Goliath, etc are planned for the WAY off future of MWLL?

Side note, if people pilot Quadrupedal mechs wouldn't that confuse the leggers out there? "To many, can't focus, brain hurts!"

That's all the odd Dougram: Fang of the Sun tech. You think people complain about legging now,.......

(I say forget those legged thingies)

"Quad 'Mechs are unlikely as they would require a completely new animation set, different armour component damage schema, change in movement base, etc.  If you do a search for "quad mechs" on the forums you will see that this has been discussed a number of times.  Ares would be subject to the same issues as well as being oversized for all of our hangar assets.  Per the fiction it requires 3 pilots, which we don't have a place for.

Alternate battle armour has been thoroughly discussed in the General Forums.  As a concept it is under consideration, but I would not hold your breath.

As most everything you queried has already been discussed in some form on these forums, I would politely ask that you please utilise the search prior to posting."

Alrighty then. So don't use the number 4 type out the word four when searching.

Yeah, honestly....the search function is kind of shit....yep, I said it

My rule of thumb, if you think "...I should use the search and see if this has been covered..."

Then don't post it, it has....

"Quad" is the term used to find this topic, as four-legged mechs in CBT are known as Quadrupedal ;)

In CBT, what are the advantages of quad mechs?

Never cared much for them myself, just curious :P

They can move sideways facing the same way, so instead of turn, move in to hex for 3 mp you just move is in the hex facing the same direction for 2 mp.

You mean 2 and 1 MP respectfully?

Turning one hexside costs 1 MP, then moving into it costs 1 for a total of 2. The Quads just lateral shift for 1 MP. The other benefit to Quads is kicking to the rear. And finally they are hard to knock down, even with a leg missing they function a little better then bi-peds. Though after losing two they get pretty damn shaky, though they can still move.

Quad 'mechs are also able to mount significantly more armour; up to 40 tons in the case of the Great Turtle. They're pretty neat, really - but software engineering concerns and the fact that none of the quads have the iconic stagus of the Timber Wolf or the Atlas have pretty much ruled out the possibility of them appearing.

it was to remain the same facing, so if looking north, you turn 1, move into grid and turn back 1 to get the original facing for 3 mp. I have not used them but i was reading the rule book a few days ago and skimmed that part.
