In defense of SA
« on: September 27, 2011, 02:36:59 AM »
I Know it has proven unpopular, but there are so many things going for this game mode that I hope that we are going to see a NEW and IMPROVED SA..
ahem
soon.
You see, in SA you get action, you see mech destruction on an epic scale, you see things that make you wish you had a better rig to render the awesome, you get to shoot things. You get a mech fix in 5 minutes.
Not to mention all the hard work the devs put in ...
So... what would you all like to see in SA that iyo would make it "work"
For me,
1. No repair hangars, seeing people firing from the repair hangars is just douche incarnate.
2. Some type of sliding scale dependent upon what the top dog is running around in . Nothing like joining a round midway in ur uller and some "pilot" in an assault just legs and blows u to kingdom come in two shots. Yeah that works.
3. I dont care what anyone says, some assets, srm vulture, are just lame and actually have helped ruin SA.
You get enough people taking these, and there always will be those who do, everyone else just gets annoyed and now what? a game mode that is doa.
thats enough for now from me. .
Your thoughts?

Was fun until they made it 16 players.

I'd have to agree with the repair pad exploit, and this really is an exploit.

People will just leg it to the repair pad and sit there while you desperately pound on them with all you have. It's never enough to out pace the repair and they'll turn around with some slight damage and proceed to kick your heavily damaged arse. Major douche nozzle move, I never use the repair pads to turn the table on my enemy, only to try and repair a bit in the lull between fights.

Repair bay functionality will be changed in upcoming patches.. without going into any detail, we have been developing mechanics specifically to eliminate the exploitable behaviour that repair bays encourage...keep ur eyes peeled for future press releases for details ;)

Which is why the instant I see anyone even glance towards the repair pad, I blast their fapping leg off.  :D

But then you get the inevitable, "why'd you leg me bro" whinging.

I'd love if repair stopped on the component you hit, so that you could blow off their arm / leg them while they repaired.

One funny thing I've seen a heph do is drive straight into the repairing mech flinging him out of the bay. Suddenly you've got a nicely damaged and conveniently shut down target to shoot :D

Then you just tell them to deal with it.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

Need some sort of stop repair if under fire. Don't get rid of the repair pads.
Having something fast like an Osiris or Harasser that can disappear from the battle and repair before anyone notices it missing is fun in SA. Repairing is not the problem, repair tanking is the problem.

But I like SA really, the hard coded 16 players sucks though... having it on separate servers rather than running in the rotation of larger servers was brutal.

If there was better armor on legs the whole legging issue would be mute....
Then no one would try to leg....

Errrr, leg armour was already boosted, I think the only section with more armour is the CT.... how much more armour do you want?!

Leg armor should be 8x CT values! :p

As far as the repair platform I personally think that if I can get to the pad without being shot then I will simply wait till repairs are done, whether or not someone takes a shot at me after the repair process has started. However that said I would not mind at all a system in place that would stop such a thing. I just won't put myself at such a disadvantage when there are plenty of commonly used cheap tactics floating around SA that I already do not use. :)

Pfft, everyone knows the real cheap tactics are stuff like ganging up on first place when they have a massive lead and are romping around in a Beat Stick. It's borderline cheating.

(that was a fun game, btw ;))

I Know it has proven unpopular

I wouldn't say that is the case. As mentioned in Taemien's thread, people do not leave when a supposedly unpopular map comes up. If the main populated servers like Huntress or XI also throw an SA map in there, I am sure people would not leave (well except those extra players, if the limit is then down to 16 or 12 when the map comes up).

Pure SA servers will simply rarely get populated. Most people simply do not want it to play all the time (would be exhausting), but not because it's generally unpopular. This would not be a problem with a game that has a huge player base, because then there would always be different people on the pure SA server. However, MWLL has a very low player base, so the choice for what map or what type of map you can play on in public is severely limited.

I agree that SA needs more love. For me, it's the most enjoyable game-mode in pub.

TSA is infested with LRM/Arrow/LT-camping tards and in TC you usually have one side who knows how TC is played and the other side who thinks they are still playing TSA and are thus driven into a corner and defeated.

I had my first game of SA this morning, and I must say that it is really enjoyable.

Well aside from people camping the rep-pad in assaults while everyone else is running around in lights and cheap meds and guys glitching themselves into the hangar to kill respawnees before their mech spawns...

Also this.

I'll strangle the next guy who constantly spawns in a LRM20 Puma when the enemy controls all bases exept our main base with his own socks. This is not a joke.  >:(
