MWLLgroupConfig v1.5.4 (MWLL 0.5.6) - edit weapon groups
« on: October 02, 2011, 05:17:04 PM »
Maybe some of you have trouble with your favorite vehicles weapon-groups getting lost every now and then. Known workaround: Make the "attributes.xml" in your MWLL profile-folder write-protected.
Since it can be a hassle to set up your configurations how you like them, here comes a little piece of software that enables you to edit your weapon-groups outside of MWLL.

Instructions:
  • Run it.
  • Enter the path to your "attributes.xml". (User/Documents/My Games/Crysis Wars/Profiles/your_ingame_name/attributes.xml)
  • Edit your weapon-groups and chainfire-settings (click on the column-headers).
  • Save your work!
  • A backup-copy of your current "attributes.xml" is created. If something goes wrong, just recover that backup manually.

Annotations:
  • If you encounter any kind of problems, please notify me.
  • Discuss the bug that is responsible for your configurations getting lost here.
  • "MWLLassets.ini": Contains a list of all the assets in the game, their weapons (same order as in the game) and the positions of their weapons. A huge thanks to ELH and especially KillThemAll for collecting these information!
  • "MWLLdata.ini": Contains even more information, including the default settings for weapon-groups. Az wrote a Perl-script to generate this file, another huge thanks to Az!
  • If there is a "*new*" behind a weapons name, the MWLLassets.ini and the MWLLdata.ini differ. This usually happens after MWLL got updated and assets were changed.
  • If you want to change the color of the program, open up the "MWLLgroupConfig.ini" and either delete the "palette"-line (back to Windows default-skin) or enter one of these colors (you may also enter RGB-values like "#dca50f" - without the quotation marks)
  • One more thanks to Az, his script continues to work and enables me to keep the program up-to-date. :)

Download:
MWLLgroupConfig 1.5.4/0.5.6 (4.1 MB)

Preview:

PS: The software was created using Qt, a very nice and handy C++-framework.

PPS: If the file is not available, just answer this thread or send me a PM. I will reupload it as soon as possible.

? I thought weapons configs were saved server side and not on the client?

These thoughts were far from true. The configurations should be saved in your profile-folder. They actually are, but they tend to get lost pretty often.

Thanks for good software.
We are working on filling MWLLassets.ini. Soon I'll post the full version with all the assets and even marked the location of weapons in the arms for greater convenience.

Marked the locations of the arms? Like this: "Uller Mech B=L-CSRM4,R-CUAC10"? Because what is written in that file is just taken as a list of weapons, you are not supposed to make it more complicated. (Although, if you got any idea on how to improve the program, just let me know.)

Thanks for your effort. I will attach my current MWLLassets.ini with a few additional assets added. Maybe it will be useful for you.

Here as I promised - I post the file MWLLassets.ini. The file specified sides on mechs for weapons, not only in arms but also the torsos.
Thanks again for the cool app!

thEClaw, it would be nice if when you save a attributes.xml your program set it "read only"

Thank you for adding all these information! Especially the arm/torso-information will be very handy. Maybe I will add some kind of coloring system to make it easier to see.

I will add your file to the download in the first post. If you object to that, let me know.

I am not sure if I can do that, but I will try.
Sorry, that does not seem to be possible. The attributes.xml not only saves your weapon-configurations, but also all your game-settings and some additional stuff. Once it is write-protected any changes you make to the options will be lost after you restart the game.
Also, even a write-protected file will not prohibit changes to your settings. These changes occur while MWLL is running, the file is only read in once you start the game. If you play two games in a row, the settings might be messed up, no matter if the file is write-protected.

In other words: Make a backup and go back to it whenever you need to. If you are fine with not being able to change any game-settings permanently, make the file write-protected.

Yes, but when it's write protected, your original weapons configuration will be restored at least. I think you could make the write protection at least optional. The inability to save any other changes will probably not bother anyone, since you typically don't do that very often anyway.

You are right. I added a button to make it write-protected, that should work. See first post.

EDIT: I changed some little things, corrected some small bugs and changed the format of the MWLLasset.ini slightly (now all vehicles need to show if they are Clan, Inner Sphere or whatever).

I made some slight changes to the program. The "Protect"-button now shows a (hopefully) intuitive icon, a harmless bug that occurred while saving was fixed, a checkbox was added in the lower left corner to prevent the creation of backups (each time you press "Save", a backup would have been created - prevent them from accumulating) and some visually unnoticeable things were changed.

Unless somebody finds a bug or has a great idea to improve the program, this (v0.6) shall be the final version.

Once again thanks a lot to KillThemAll and his ELH companions, they notified me about a bug: Vehicles with more than nine weapons were not properly saved, this should be fixed in version 0.7. I'll update the first post.

EDIT: I made a little mistake and added another bug in v0.7. Maybe it is a bad bug, I am not sure if it affects the game - but you may have to revert to a backup. Version 0.8 should be clean, however.
