Wait... what glitched torso pitch?
The crouched max pitch is the same as the standing max pitch: 55 degrees. On most mechs it's 35 degrees standing, 55 degrees while crouching. The extreme standing max pitch on the Scat allows it to shoot at ridiculous angles, which is why the Scat B is so dangerous to ASFs.

Oh, ok. Same as the Thor, then.

I'd say have your team spread out, and use Large lasers of any sort.  AA tanks are easily avoided or snuck up on by Shivas.  I was actually having lots of fun trying to shoot them down by 'hiding' my Mauler prime in that arch on the hill on Sandblasted.  Don't think I got any kills, but my team did.  Any thing with LBX-20 is good, heck I get most of my AA kills with a Bushy B as they fly by too low, or into my face.  It was probably a Shiva Prime with LL, 2Gauss and LRMs.

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

I have exactly the opposite reaction to this thread. I've taken out a Sparrowhawk B against a Shiva before and even with its damage multiplier, the LBX2 is like shooting them with paper clips. You can unload on them for like 20 seconds without doing any significant damage. And as soon as you're shot at by anyone on the ground, you have to RTB for repairs assuming you make it that far. However, when I got AA Parti or Huit, I do a buttload of damage to ASF and kill several. I usually go BA so it's not something I do often, but if ASF is really tearing my team apart I'll do it. My position on the scoreboard usually goes up pretty fast doing this, too. Lots of points available. Against ASF specialists like LordHack, you won't get kills unless they experience heavy fire as they RTB. But you can force ASF specialists out of the battle for repairs alone (just be careful when they come looking for revenge). (Note 90% of the time I go AA, there are no ASF specialists - of which there are few in the community - in the air)

Just some tips are to:
1) Use the zoom function
2) Attack them any time you can
3) Separate your guns by range so you're not wasting ammo
4) LISTEN for them (if it's friendly, you'll see them on radar)
5) Go active when you need to find a target and then go passive (C3 is useful for this)
6) Move around when you can't find an active target. An aero pilot will remember your position by your relative position on the terrain and try to kill you when he has a chance. For instance, shoot him from out in the open, then when you have his attention move behind a rock. Then when he doesn't see you and flies overhead to your last known position, shoot him again. Then move again. If moving isn't an option because you've got a clear shot the entire time, he'll die anyway.

I think Shivas are the only planes that can actually get shot down by AA tanks, so use them ;)

I agree with this. AA tanks are not very effective against aero except on wide open maps or against crappy pilots.

Hawkmoth B also just cuts shivas to pieces. Shiva can get away from the HM, but it lacks the speed to be able to continue its attack run. Sulla can mostly ignore the Hawkmoth so long as he doesn't try to shoot the Hawkmoth down or otherwise linger close too long.

Dirty tactic is dirty ;)

Following them back in your plane while they run like hoes and taking them out while landing is ok (especially considering on most maps this is the only way you can kill them with non-Shiva E's and you have to fight base defenses to do it) but parking a Huit near there is pretty cheap IMO

How far you park said huit is also a grey area. On some maps you can be pretty far away from the airfield and still damage aero while taking off. Not all that different than a ERPPC/Gauss mech hitting mechs just outside the hangar really.

IMHO if the Aero was just built and is still "inside" the hangar its off limits. But as soon as it starts rolling down the runway its fair game even  if it goes back for reload/repair.

Today I followed an Tbolt sulla back to his airfield and destroyed him while reloading. He was pretty upset and cried "Base Rape". Of Course, he had just spent the last 20 minutes T-bolting our mechs just outside our hangar... so...  ::)

Best way to counter Shivas ?

Either Huit Prime or Shiva E.

I don't know about Arrows, but they might even be efffective against those huge slow metal birds.

Parti D is a good basic unit, unload with the UAC2s and fire the light Gauss whenever you're hitting with the UAC2s because they have similar flight time.
Partisan Prime is good for Shiva Es and Fbomb Shivas due to the high amount of damage it does from 800m.
Huit Prime is always a good all around choice.

In my experience Shivas are much easier to take down than Sullas, which can only be taken out by coordinated UAC/Lgauss softening and dual LBX10 finishing.

On open maps (Clearcut, Sandblasted, DeathValley) the Huit Prime is unbeatable against air.
On enclosed and narrow maps (Mirage, Kagoshima) a SCat B or Thor Prime does the trick.
Never arm once what you could arm twice.

In Lyran Commonwealth, Atlas scouts you.

Huit Prime's are good at suppressing Shiva's on most maps, but it varies wildly on the overall skill of the pilot.  The real hammer to scissors counter though is your own Shiva E on your team.

If your team has no AA at all than you're basically asking yourself to be pwned by Shiva's. Although this can't always be avoided on huge maps like Death Valley where AA coverage is limited to a few grids.

Not to mention hitting anything with AA depends on the relative ping of the players. Sometimes the right tool for the job is rendered useless through something that is out of everyone's control.

Anything with LBX20s works. But its dicey at best. Even a LBX20 demo will work wonders if you park it on the slope of a hill.

Personally I'd like to see the Beatstick Shiva disappear. Nothing in this game should be able to do what it does. Its the best AA unit, and one of the best ground attack units. Nothing should be the Master of all Trades like that. Even the Shadowcats aren't like that (not that I complain about Scats). Also unless you're in a Sparrowhawk, the Beatstick Shiva will kill you if you're in the air, period. If you are making an attack run, and that thing gets sight of you, you're pretty much dead. I've never seen a Sulla escape the damn thing unless it was flying away already and was aware of its presence.

And then when there's two of them facing off.. its not a matter of skill, its a matter of who's latency is going to screw who.

I've used the thing quite a bit and its just a cheesy loadout.
