I have exactly the opposite reaction to this thread. I've taken out a Sparrowhawk B against a Shiva before and even with its damage multiplier, the LBX2 is like shooting them with paper clips. You can unload on them for like 20 seconds without doing any significant damage. And as soon as you're shot at by anyone on the ground, you have to RTB for repairs assuming you make it that far. However, when I got AA Parti or Huit, I do a buttload of damage to ASF and kill several. I usually go BA so it's not something I do often, but if ASF is really tearing my team apart I'll do it. My position on the scoreboard usually goes up pretty fast doing this, too. Lots of points available. Against ASF specialists like LordHack, you won't get kills unless they experience heavy fire as they RTB. But you can force ASF specialists out of the battle for repairs alone (just be careful when they come looking for revenge). (Note 90% of the time I go AA, there are no ASF specialists - of which there are few in the community - in the air)
Just some tips are to:
1) Use the zoom function
2) Attack them any time you can
3) Separate your guns by range so you're not wasting ammo
4) LISTEN for them (if it's friendly, you'll see them on radar)
5) Go active when you need to find a target and then go passive (C3 is useful for this)
6) Move around when you can't find an active target. An aero pilot will remember your position by your relative position on the terrain and try to kill you when he has a chance. For instance, shoot him from out in the open, then when you have his attention move behind a rock. Then when he doesn't see you and flies overhead to your last known position, shoot him again. Then move again. If moving isn't an option because you've got a clear shot the entire time, he'll die anyway.
