No thanks I like my games with a backstory and fleshed out world.

I loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution for this very reason. Plenty of shooting and / or sneaking, but a healthy dose of world development as well.

I spent ages just reading the ebooks and hacking PCs to read emails and the like. It all adds to the game world and immerses you in it.  In dialogue I always questioned the shit out of everyone to get every little tidbit of information about the world and characters out.
A good story line and immersive world is what keeps me hooked in and playing through.

Unfortunately both Mass Effect 1 and 2 didn't really satisfy this craving. Mass effect one was generic city with anything outside the main storyline, There was some backstory and universe development there, but enduring those stupid vomit wagon sequences to get to them wasn't too appealing.

ME2 had the formulaic 'help a buddy' missions, only one per buddy allowed thanks... no interesting story arcs over consecutive missions for you... also after that they either love you or hate your guts.
It all seemed a bit short and cut down as well. Look at Baldurs gate for an example of companions done right.

So I'm not particularly looking forward to the latest dumbing down of the franchise.

To each their own. I'm on the side of nice long story driven RPGS. But ME1 was drawn out a lot, ME2 was a bit better at it I thought.

So the multiplayer demo is out. Has anyone else played it so far?
The demo has a singleplayer part where you play the first (or at least very early) 20 minutes of the game and a small portion of one of the latte missions.
The skill tree got a little bigger, each power has 6 levels now and 3 levels have coices (instead of only 5 levels with only a choice on the last level), so characters can be cusomized more.

Multiplayer part consists of 2 maps in this demo, both are simple hold the position for x waves. (as far as I know, tried them with a friend and we did not beat them yet)
So far its simple but fun. I hope there will be other mission types then just "hold position" in the full version.

EDIT:
Okay, the missions do have changing objectives in later waves. Nice so far.

Pretty much my impression, too.

The story mode of the demo doesn't allow for any conclusions to be drawn yet (imo) but it looks fun. And what I've seen from the skill trees in single- and multiplayer, those seem to make more sense to me than the trees in the previous games. It really is a shame that so much has been cut out for the demo (there is only one real dialogue tree and you only see a few representative moments of the two missions). But I really don't regret having pre-ordered the collector's edition.

Multiplayer is fun. Demo content is indeed simplistic, but it is surprisingly entertaining thanks to the ever-changing assignments that occur spontaneously (find & destroy certain targets on map, retrieve/hold information...). And although it is pretty simple, it does get challenging if the squad does not cooperate well enough. Also, the multiplayer was the first time where I played something different than "Soldier" in ME, and it's nice how well it works.
I'm guessing that BW uses the multiplayer to explore the possibility of action-oriented games in the ME universe.

So all in all, the demo was a really nice appetizer - and the multiplayer part keeps does keep me interested in waiting for the full game. Only thing that bugs me off are the haters on the gaming forums who (as they did with all previous Bioware releases that I can think of) claim that ME3 is (yet again) the worst possible thing that could have been published (blah, blah).

Yeah, they are kinda annoying.
Tough they were right with that on Dragon Age 2. Thats one of the worst "big" games I've ever played. Maybe even the worst.

Back to ME3
I like it more and more.
I've started an Infiltrator (same class as my FemShep in the main story) now in multiplayer, and I absolutely love this class.
Still haven't gotten very far in the waves as I have only played it with a single friend or alone, but I really like how challenging it is.

Thinking about dumping my secondary weapon for almost permanent invisibility.  ;D

The multiplayer is decent when you got a good host, but holy shit sometimes the leader's connection is so bad that you don't do damage until a minute after you shoot (if at all) and you get killed 30 seconds after you get shot (and you never know that you got shot because it didn't register either so your only warning is being dead on the floor 30 seconds after it happens)

looking forward to trying it with friends though

Yes Delta, we're called the human race. What dark path of evolution did your decendents travel to so strangely warp your judgement?

It's funny Bill, your cynicism prompt me to play ME1 again last night, since I never finished it.  I wanted to strangle every person I had to talk to in game.
And kept skipping through all the dialog.  Yawnn....

Gonna keep going, but the Citadel is a long boring run around that I don't look forward to. :-X

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

I just hate how they took away the ability to crouch in Me2/3

gets you killed a lot, especially in online Co-Op

I just got the Screw Origin Edition, and am thoroughly enjoying it.  I can't play co-op with the executable firewalled, but I can crouch/take cover in the single player.  It took me a little getting used to, but it works just fine.  The melee seems a bit odd, but it's still an improvement over the one-move melee the games had before.  I like the weapon customization a bit more, but wish extended magazines were actually...well, extended.  I dig the Intelligent Choke for the shotguns, though...really digging that.  Also, the sound is vastly improved from the last game, in pretty much every way possible; not just the differing sounds for everything, and all the extra little 'filler' sounds, but the quality of the sound itself; ME1 sounded like crap in general, ME2 was passible but average, but ME3's sounds are excellent.

Also...as for what happened on Tuchanka...I fully expect Godzilla and Mothra to show up and help defend Tokyo at the end, complete with those two weird women singing in the background while it happens. :D

I loved that part, so awesome.
You talked with Joker after that event? I totally agree with his suggestion for a new anti-reaper weapon system  ;D

I finished the whiole game in a huge non-stop 28 hour playtrough, and now I'm playing co-op. Its pretty fun, but many of those people I meet there make me wonder how the hell they manage to play the single player. (Dying every damn single wave and forcing me to waste valuable cloaking cooldowns on picking them up.)

Played online Coop with my brother for 10 hours yesterday to grind our way up to 100% readiness.

It was pretty fun as it pretty much just played like L4D survival mode but the zombies had guns.

It took us till level 17 to actually beat bronze challenge once, and that round I had to blow two medigels.

I must say, after all that fighting, I should be pretty "ready" for ME3 combat ironically enough.

It really felt like random SPACE MARINES! than Mass effect cause the only thing that was there to remind us it was mass effect were the geth, otherwise it was fighting generic badguys and zombies.

Oh, of course!  I make sure I talk to Joker/EDI after EVERY mission...the funniest lines in the game usually involve one or both of them, lol.

Other thoughts after my first couple days of gameplay:

Seeing Ashley getting the stuffing beat out of her = another great moment in the game.  I didn't like her in ME1, I hated her in ME2, and thoroughly enjoyed the braining she received in ME3.  I had hoped Cerberus managed to beat some sense into her, but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Another improvement: Miranda's ass has rather impressive ass-physics; I had to laugh when the camera zoomed in until her ass eclipsed damned near everything else on the screen, lol.

Also, sad face: I had hoped to see the Geth under different circumstances.  Quite the bummer.

But, on a good note, there is a lot more swearing, with a wider variety of adult language in ME3.  It gives the game more of a gritty feeling, which is good, considering everyone's nerves are frayed, and you're spending a lot of time dealing with people who don't give a damn about being diplomatic.

Lol, same here.
Virmire in ME1 was a pretty hard decision for me, because I could not decide which of those 2 twats I wanted dead more. Killed Kaidan because his voice was so goddamn annoying, at least that way he quitted talking. Forever.
